It is a compelling and sinister story of manipulation. The four part series tells the story of Ophelia, a student who falls for her charismatic college lecturer, Dr Michael Callaghan. He is married, but when his wife dies in mysterious circumstances, Ophelia starts to question her own sanity.

Mescal plays builder Sean McKeough, who Ophelia confides in after she believes Callaghan’s wife Roisin may actually be alive, despite supposedly dying in a house fire.

Some secrets won’t die. A brand new 4-part drama, #TheDeceived, is coming soon to @Channel5_tv. pic.twitter.com/CUdnNzGZe2
