The month ahead is bursting with plenty of entertaining activities and events across the country
November is here and with it, the cold. As the temperatures drop to winter levels, it’s tempting to stay snuggled up inside. However, this month there are plenty of activities and events taking place to kick off everyone’s favourite holiday. Christmas is right around the corner and November is the perfect time to get into the holiday spirit.
Ennis Fashion Show
Ennis is hosting a Fashion and Wellness experience on 5 November. As the ‘Boutique Capital of Ireland’, the day long event will kick off with a brunch followed by a fashion show presented by broadcaster Lorraine Keane. Stylist Laura Jordan will join her onstage to discuss the latest trends and style tips. The afternoon will be filled with a variety of activities, including a body confidence workshop. To finish off the day, a specialist panel will be discussing ‘Sex and Wellness’ with topics ranging from women’s wellbeing to intimacy in relationships. Glucksman Craft and Design Fair
To experience the creativity of Ireland’s makers and bag yourself some unique gifts, the Glucksman Design and Crafts Fair will be taking place in Cork from 11 to 13 November. Over fifty selected creators will showcase their designs in jewellery, prints, ceramics, stationary, furniture, glass and woodturning. Many of this years participants are recent graduates with a special focus on sustainable products that suit a variety of budgets. Admission to the fair is €5. Samhain Food Festival
The Samhain Food Festival returns for the fourth year in Kells, Co Meath. There will be cooking demos, a cocktail making masterclass, kids cooking classes and plenty more for the whole family to enjoy. To pick up some culinary tips and tricks before the Christmas dinner preparations begin, award-winning chefs and best-selling cookbook authors will be present for the three-day festival. Shop and Rock Store
Celebrating its eleventh anniversary, Dundrum Town Centre will see the return of its Shop and Rock store. The store is back by popular demand and will be open for one day only on 10 November from 6pm to 11pm. The theme of this year’s store is Hollywood Musicals, in honour of the most iconic musicals throughout the decades. This means that shoppers will get to enjoy live performances of hits from classics like Grease and Moulin Rouge. Kenmare on Fire
Throughout the month, three locations in Kenmare, Co Kerry will be offering experiences based on fire, warmth and fun. Art Source
This art event will be taking place in the RDS from 11 to 13 November. Over 160 exhibitors will be present to showcase their works. Amongst them is Afif El-Khuffash, a Dublin maternity hospital consultant in the Rotunda Hospital. His work aims to confront society’s judgement of how mother’s feed their babies. On the morning of the opening day, 100 works will be available to purchase for €100 on a first-come, first-serve basis. Tickets are €10 and are available to purchase on artsource.ie.
Design Week
Design Week will take place from 14 to 18 November. Supported and funded by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment and convened by Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI), it is a national programme of events that aims to celebrate and promote designers and creators. Throughout the week there will be several events taking place across the country. The opening launch is in The National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin. Bruce Mau will appear alongside his wife and co-founder of Massive Change Network, Aiyemobisi Williams to discuss the key topics in the country right now, such as housing, healthcare and sustainability. Dingle Distillery International Film Festival
From 11 to 13 November, 82 films from 23 countries are set to be shown at the Dingle Distillery International Film Festival. Over 30 of these films are Irish made. Saoirse Ronan will be amongst the stars on the red carpet in Kerry throughout the weekend. Established and up-and-coming talent within the film industry can make use of the wide range of master’s talks and workshops. Tickets start at €25 and can be purchased at dinglefilmfest.com.
IMRAM
Returning on the 10 until the 20 November, IMRAM, the Irish Language Literary Festival will take place across the country. Events will be happening in person and online in poetry, pros and literature. IMRAM na nÓg, the children’s literature festival means that little ones can take part too. Wonderlights
‘The Night Sky’ has just been launched by Wonderlights at Malahide Castle and Gardens. Open from 4 November to 3 January, guests can immerse themselves in a sensory lightshow in the woods. Iris Fashion Event
On the 26 and 27 November, Iris Fashion will be hosting a fashion event in Studio 10 on Wicklow Street, Dublin. The Conscious Christmas Curated Collection comprises of five Irish designers – Aoife, Tidings, Vanessa Ree Jewellery, Kindered of Ireland and Conor O’Brien Design. With a focus on slow-fashion, the limited edition store will be full of conscious Christmas gifts from prints to heritage Irish linen.
