To celebrate the new Vivienne Westwood eyewear collection by Specsavers, we have two vouchers to give away
Specsavers has unveiled a new eyewear collection exclusively designed by fashion house Vivienne Westwood. The frames and sunglasses feature signature prints and the iconic Westwood orb logo. Think classic tartan, rebellious graffiti and slick wire rims (€199).
Edgy yet flattering, there are designs to suit all face shapes and personalities, whether bold oversized sunglasses in tartan are your thing, or you’re more of a classic round-eye.
Fans of Vivienne Westwood will know that the vocal designer is passionate and proactive about issues such as climate change. The collection is partially made from Eastman Acetate Renew, a combination of recycled single use plastic and biobased materials from sustainably sourced wood pulp.
The collection packaging has also been designed with consideration to the environment, featuring a pale grey shell case in recycled felt, with a tartan polish cloth in recycled nylon.
Here, Director of Frame Development at Specsavers Sam Craig sums up what makes this collection such a standout.
Sam, what was important to Vivienne Westwood when working on this collaboration?
Authenticity is the foundation of this exciting collaboration. And disruption. Vivienne Westwood has long been renowned for their irreverent take on fashion, woven into every millimetre of this collection are many of their iconic signatures from tartan to the orb bringing parts of the brand history into a very modern setting.
What was it like translating the Vivienne Westwood design sensibility into eyewear at this price point?
Vivienne Westwood have created such a rich tapestry in their sartorial history, it has been a delight to draw upon this when creating the collection. Far from shy, Vivienne Westwood customers are daring, and so is this collection. Both in shapes and materials. This is a real departure for Specsavers and a welcomed addition to our frame styling. The end result being a bold collection featuring strong confident design at great value
What is it like being able to bring a piece of Vivienne Westwood to customers in a more inclusive, accessible way?
At Specsavers we not only stand for exceptional value, but we also dress the eyes of the nation. With such a diverse customer base, we want to offer something for everyone and having Vivienne Westwood in our brand portfolio is the cherry on the cake. A tartan cherry on the top of a graffiti cake with a sprinkling of orbs!
This is a really impressive offering in terms of sustainability. What should customers be conscious of when it comes to conventional materials used to make eyewear?
In line with the Vivienne Westwood ethos, the collection has been developed with consideration to its design, durability and sustainability. Our aim was to make this the foundation of the collection and we have worked tirelessly to bring this to you. Each frame is partially made from Eastman Acetate Renew, which is a combination of recycled single-use plastic and bio-based materials that come from sustainably sourced wood pulp. For every one-million frames made with Acetate Renew, Eastman uses 50 tons of waste plastic as a raw material. This is plastic that is not currently recycled which means it is being diverted from landfill and the ocean. As a famous activist, this was an absolute demand from the team at Vivienne Westwood, and as a pillar of our strategy, we were delighted to bring this to our customers in all the 11 countries in which we trade.
