Editor’s letter: Welcome to the November issue

Ceadigh Heslin by Ceadigh Heslin

Editor Klara Heron introduces us to a comforting November issue of Irish Country Magazine

Sarah McInerney summed it up when we sat down for her cover interview. “It’s going to be a rocky few months,” she told me, as we discussed the busy season ahead, both in politics (the focus of her fascinating day job) and for the country in general. I think everyone is feeling it; no matter where you are at in life, there is a lot changing in the world around us.

As winter moves in, Irish Country Magazine is here to bring a little joy to your day. I often describe the magazine as a small pocket of positivity in an otherwise unpredictable world, and so that’s what we promise to do for this issue and every one thereafter – to entertain and comfort.

In my last editor’s letter, I asked you to vote for your favourite businesses in the Irish Made Awards 2022 and I’m thrilled to say that the winners have now been revealed (see page 32). Almost 100,000 votes were cast and it’s incredible to see people getting behind these businesses, often small and family-run, with such support. A huge congratulations to our Overall Winner, Ground Wellbeing – a fabulous Cork-based brand with a very bright future.

You might look at the winners and think, I’d love to do something like that one day. If so, I recommend you read our resident life coach’s advice on taking your business from light bulb idea to reality (page 78). In fact, there’s lots of great advice to be found throughout this issue – with guides to low-tox living, jellyfish parenting, brightening up your home and more.

I like to say a huge thank you to every person reading this, and give a very warm welcome to any new readers. The latest report has revealed that Irish Country Magazine has an all-time high readership of over 123,000 now. Many of you came to us during darker days of lockdowns and it brings the whole team so much joy to know you have stuck with us. And of course lots of you have been here for many years – thank you for your loyal support. It honestly means the world to every person who works on these pages.

Happy reading!

Klara Heron
