The Easter break is a great time to catch up on some old films, new TV shows and one-off specials

Fri 29 March
The Magnificent Seven – Virgin Media One, 9pm

If you missed the original, this is a remake of the classic Western, starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt. A remote frontier town falls under the control of a ruthless industrialist, who uses the locals as forced labour in his mines. A woman goes in search of help, recruiting a band of seven hired guns to protect the town and train the people to fight back.

The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer – Channel 4, 9.40pm

You’re always going to have fun watching Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond play with celebrities in the Bake Off kitchen! This time, they’re supporting Oti Mabuse, Gabby Logan, David O’Doherty and Suzi Ruffell as they put their baking skills to the test, under the watchful eyes of judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

Women’s Six Nations (Ireland v Italy) – RTÉ 2, From 2.30pm

Italy claimed a 24-7 victory when the sides met in Parma last year, but Ireland won 29-8 in Cork when they last faced each other in this competition on Irish soil in 2022.

Ireland 100: An Old Song Resung – RTÉ 1, 10.30pm

Commemorating the past 100 years through the lens of Irish culture in song, music, dance and spoken word, this show will feature contributions and performances from outstanding Irish artists, singers, musicians, dancers and broadcasters. Expect to see Dermot Kennedy, Damien Dempsey, Diarmaid Ferriter, Tolu Makay, Donal Lunny and friends, the London Irish Pensioners Choir and lots more.

Before I Go to Sleep – TG4, 9.30pm

This thriller, starring Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth tells the story of a woman who cannot retain her memories following a traumatic accident. She is contacted by a mysterious neuropsychologist, who offers to help her recover the truth about her condition. As she tries to piece together the events of her past, she begins to fear neither her husband nor the doctor are who they seem to be.

If your children are big fans of the Despicable Me or Minions movies, they’ll love this origins story that depicts one twelve-year-old’s dream to become the world’s greatest supervillain!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem – NOW TV

The ninjitsu-fighting band of brothers, Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Mikey are back for a full feature-length adventure packed with everything we love about the original series. With John Cena, Jackie Chan and Seth Rogan among the stellar cast of voices featured, it’s guaranteed feel-good viewing over the holidays.

From sequined kaftans to scandals and secrets, this new TV series could very quickly become your new obsession.
