These tips and tricks are designed to relax body and mind
The run-up to Christmas is always full of excitement, but the time can also come with added stress. Buying presents, decorating, and the pressure to entertain can make this time of year a whirlwind. This, combined with darker days and a lack of Vitamin D, means that spirits can often drop.
Taking time to relax and unwind is so important, and can make all the difference during such a busy season. Here are our tips to incorporate wellness into your winter.
1. Utilise soothing aromatherapy
Aromatherapy involves the use of aromatic essential oils to relax the senses and soothe the mind. Simply run a hot bath, pop in a few drops of your oil of choice (we love lavender, rosehip, or geranium), and enjoy. We love #IrishMade brands Atlantic Aromatics and Bomar, which both provide a wide range of oils.
2. Engage in at-home meditation
Sometimes you just need to close your eyes, take deep breaths, and shut off for a few minutes. Meditation is something you can easily do from the comfort of your home, with the help of a guided meditation video or an app such as Headspace.
3. Add greenery with a new house plant
House plants do more than just look pretty – they have many health benefits, too. From cleaning the air to increasing productivity, a number of studies have proven that plants are good for your health. Why not brighten up your home with a festive houseplant, such as a poinsettia or amaryllis.
4. A chat with a friend cures all
If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, sometimes a chat with a friend is all you need. Reconnect with a loved one you haven’t seen in a while and catch up over a comforting hot drink. Check out our favourite fireside pubs if you fancy an evening tipple.
5. Brave the cold and get some fresh air
Yes, it’s harder to get outside when the temperatures drop, but the endorphin release from exercise cannot be understated. Wrap up in your warmest clothes and embark on a scenic walk to take your mind off the everyday hustle and bustle.
6. Soothe your skin with a face mask
A face mask is a great excuse to sit down and close your eyes for 15 minutes of downtime, and they have the added benefit of moisturizing tired skin. Let them chill in the fridge before applying for extra soothing factor.
