THE DECAMERON

Comedy, drama, food, superheroes – we’ve got it all right here

TV Show: The Comeback – NOW TV and Sky Comedy

“This is an old show but one I came across recently while browsing NOW TV. As faded sitcom star Valerie Cherish (desperate to return to the limelight via her new reality show) Lisa Kudrow did something I never thought she could – she made me forget she ever played Phoebe Buffay on Friends. No small feat. Written by Michael Patrick King and Kudrow herself, The Comeback was criminally overlooked when it first aired and even though there are two seasons to watch, they’re filmed nearly a decade apart because ironically, it was cancelled after the first season. Thankfully, we get to revisit Valerie’s life and career nine years later and the result is even more poignant and entertaining than before. Expect lots of famous cameos and a real peek behind the curtain of how a sitcom is made. Can’t recommend it highly enough.” – Claire, Digital Journalist

Podcast: The Daily

“Lately, I have been loving diving into the audio versions of the New York Times Sunday reads. They are available to listen to on their podcast The Daily and are a joyous feast for your ears of exquisite writing, sharp observations, and captivating storytelling. The most recent one I’ve been glued to is ‘The Kidnapping I Can’t Escape.’ It tells the story of Jack Teich who in 1974 was kidnapped out of his driveway in the nicest area of the nicest part of Long Island. This is a story about surviving what you survived, which is also known as the rest of your life…” – Elle, Acting Deputy Editor and Beauty Editor

TV Show: The Decameron – Netflix

“I’ve just started watching The Decameron – starring our very own Derry Girl Saoirse Monica Jackson – and I’m hooked after just two episodes. Loosely based on Giovanni Boccaccio’s short-story collection, this brilliantly bonkers series follows a group of 14th-century nobles and servants sheltering from the bubonic plague at a massive villa in the Florentine countryside. Their lavish retreat quickly spirals into chaos, and oh how fun it is to watch!” – Niamh, Acting Editor

Podcast: Dish

Pic: Dish Podcast on Spotify

“A podcast that I’m loving at the moment is Dish. With Irish producer Claire Solan at its helm, this show is the perfect mix of foodie, meets comedy, meets culture. Presented by infamous radio host and DJ Nick Grimshaw and Michelin star chef Angela Hartnett, this duo seems like an unusual fit from very different worlds. However, their sense of humour with each other is so brilliant and funny to listen to and they both bring out such great conversations in their guests. With little cooking snippets from Angela throughout, not only will you laugh out loud at the conversations but you’ll also take away some brilliant tips for the kitchen! Super easy listening.” – Megan, Journalist

TV Show: Supacell – Netflix

“I loved the six-episode Netflix drama Supacell, a refreshing and wholly original take on the superhero genre. It’s the story of five seemingly ordinary black people from South London, all linked by a genetic history of sickle cell disease and the sudden emergence of superpowers. One of them discovers he can time travel – and teleports to the future where he discovers his fiancée’s life is in danger.” – Ciara, Art Director
