The soothing shade that is Dulux Colour of the Year 2021

Consider this natural shade as a foundation for the home, a strong base to do with what you will

It may come as no surprise given the rollercoaster year we have had, but Dulux Colour of The Year 2021 is a soothing neutral shade.

The Dulux Colour of the Year always tries to channel the current mood, with last year’s Tranquil Dawn reflecting our entry into a new decade.

Dulux Brave Ground is a warm, earthy colour that creates a sense of security. In recent months we have all turned to nature for a sense of comfort and rootedness, to quell the stress of what is going on in the world, and this colour does seem to reflect the mood of the moment.

But how to make this shade work in your home? Think of it as a bolster, to bring harmony and to restore balance to the home. Harmonise with other natural shades or for a more individual look, use bold stripes of colour.

Creative Director for Dulux Ireland, Marianne Shillingford, explains that this year’s shade is versatile, with the potential to harmonise the home or make a statement. It’s a time of change in our lives, and that is true for our homes too.

“Needless to say it’s been challenging this year to transform the key global trends into inspiring colour palettes. We’ve seen unprecedented global change, with all of us facing experiences that feel out of kilter with the world as we knew it,” Marianne says.

“At the same time, many people have experienced positive things: solidarity in communities, strangers’ generosity, and the realization that together we can do extraordinary things. People are digging deep and finding the courage to move forward.”
