The Thoughtful Shopper has partnered with Breast Cancer Ireland

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and one way to reach out to those with the disease is to send them a special gift box. The Thoughtful Shopper is an Irish bespoke gifting service that puts together gift boxes. This month, they have created the Indulgence Edit for Breast Cancer Ireland. The Edit is available to order or boxes can be sponsored for another. Breast Cancer Ireland gives the sponsored boxes to women in treatment.

“It’s about solidarity,” says Agnes Maher of The Thoughtful Shopper. During lockdown, one of Agnes’ friends developed breast cancer. Restrictions meant they were unable to take the kids for sleepovers to ease the stress, or drive her to treatment. Instead, Agnes and her friends made hampers. “We filled [the first one] with things that would bring her physical comfort in our absence.” These included a cashmere blanket for when she got cold during her ice cap treatment, books, candles, and non-toxic room diffusers.

They followed this up with hampers that included word art, silk pyjamas, jewellery and skincare, as well as plenty of other treats. “Her last basket was things to get her ready to face the world again after she was finished.”

Home-grown

While making the hampers, Agnes and her friends discovered producers and suppliers of small-batch luxury products, many of them based in Ireland. When she set up The Thoughtful Shopper, she chose to deal with producers and suppliers with an ethos. The result is an Irish-made and personal hamper service, capturing the beauty of our small island.

“Our suppliers are all based in small local communities, making from homes, farms, small premises. We use suppliers who are an asset to the localities in which they are based, producing in a way that is sustainable, ethical, and kind,” says Agnes. She then got in touch with Breast Cancer Ireland to set up an official relationship whereby a donation from each box sold would be given directly to the organisation.

The Thoughtful Shopper now provides a gift service for all occasions. But this October it will deliver Indulgence Edit boxes to Breast Cancer Ireland. The edit includes treats from the likes of Tidings, Millis, Jo Browne and more. After distrobution, they will make a donation of €20 per box sponsored. You can donate individually or do a whip-around in your social group, community or sports club. Every little bit makes a difference!
