How to clear your clutter and avoid unnecessary purchases

clutter

There’s a lot to be said for clearing out clutter – it doesn’t just benefit your home, it also has a huge impact on your mood

Summer is here, and if you missed the annual spring clean, fear not. It’s never too late to get organised. Judy Gilroy, founder of home organisation destination clossy.co is sharing her top tips to get us started:

Getting organised is a marathon, not a sprint

Getting organised is good for the soul but try to think of it as a way of life, rather than one big mammoth task that feels unappealing and overwhelming.

Break down your to-do list into small, manageable tasks and tackle them one by one with systems that are easy for everyone in the family to maintain.

In the kitchen, start with the fridge

The fridge is the heart of the home and one of my favourite places to start with organisation. An organised fridge can help to reduce household food waste, save you money on your weekly food shop and encourages healthier food choices. It also looks great and is a very satisfying job to do!

For kids toy storage use clear durable bins with handles

Toy storage is a universal cause of clutter in the home. The solution? Clear, durable bins that store everything and come with handles so that little ones can grasp them easily and see what’s inside.

Plan out the medicine cupboard

The medicine cupboard can get chaotic very quickly as everything is thrown on top of each other with scant regard for use by dates. The first step is to empty it completely and dispose of any old prescription medication, expired products or empty containers.

Then, put what you have into categories: pain relief, cold & flu, baby/kids, SPF, supplements, etc. Invest in some good containers and fill them up. Divided drawers are great for products that come in little boxes. Sunscreens will fit better in taller containers but there is no hard and fast rule!

Beauty storage and display

Put order to your lotions, potions and beauty drawers by dividing them into categories and dedicating organisers to each one. Use one container for everyday make-up, another for hair, another for palettes and so on.

Try out the Everywhere Shallow to calm the chaos of shallow drawers and to sort your beauty bits. The Stackable Divided drawer stacked with the Stackable Divided Bin also make for great table top storage options. Shop the collection and more at clossy.co.
