Culture Night 2021 is happening this Friday, September 17th
Culture Night is one of the most exciting nights of the year and it’s finally here. The last 18 months have proven the importance of culture more than ever before. We need music, dance, theatre, beauty, art, and each thread in our rich Irish tapestry. And on Friday, we get it all. Take a look at some highlights of this year’s line-up, with events both online and offline, all free.
Culture country
Thankfully, it doesn’t matter where you are in the country, there are events happening all over. The Fumbally Stables in Dublin’s historic Liberties hosts a demo from The Liberties Weavers, a community group dedicated to bringing weaving back to the Liberties. Fashion fans can come along to Try It Out in the Sew Arty Studio in Monaghan to enjoy a series of classes. There’s a virtual tour of Leinster House, an outdoor exhibition by residents of direct provision hostels, and a pop-up circus show in Cork.
Head to Dundalk Library Garden for an evening of stories at Scéalaíocht do Theaghlaigh le Seosamh Ó Maolalaí. Watch Emma Brennan’s At the Castle in stunning Roscommon ruins. If you’re looking to stay in for the night, flick over to RTÉ’s Nationwide special or take a look online for the likes of audio performances. Plus so much more – check out the Culture Night 2021 event website for a full breakdown of the schedule.
This year, as part of the work of the Night-Time Economy Taskforce, the Arts Council is piloting a number of late-night events to support the development of a more vibrant and sustainable night-time economy. These events are taking place in Dublin, Cork, and Galway.
Whether your interests lie in poetry, music, dance, health, film, your tastes will be catered for. And if you’ve ever asked how we dance again, after such a tumultuous year, check out Culture Night’s video below:
