Christmas recipe: Gingerbread for beginners

Try this easy, straight-forward recipe for a delicious festive snack

Gingerbread men are a Christmas classic enjoyed by all. For a fun winters-day activity with the kids, this simple recipe from Adare Manor is a must.

Try it with different cutting tools and decorate them however you like; it’s perfect for releasing your creativity and getting into the festive spirit. If you’re new to baking this is a great beginner-friendly recipe to try that does not require the skills of a more experienced baker. Its time to get your apron on, crank up the Christmas tunes and get baking!

  • 350g plain flour
  • 5g baking soda
  • 10g ginger powder
  • 5g cinnamon
  • 120g butter
  • 20g treacle
  • 170g light brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 20g golden syrup

Method

  1. Mix the butter and sugars until creamy consistency, add the rest of the ingredients slowly and roll between two pieces of baking paper.
  2. Cut out your desired shape and bake at 160C for approximately 14-16 minutes depending on your size.

To decorate:

  • 3 egg whites
  • 600gr icing sugar
  • 10gr lemon juice or white vinegar
  • Cr colorant gel

Mix everything together for a few minutes until you have the colorant incorporated and use it on your cookies with a piping bag and a fine nozzle to decorate as you please.
