Ballet flats: The season’s biggest shoe trend is here to stay

From metallic to leopard print, heeled to mesh fabric, there are so many variations of this shoe to try out this winter

While many were hesitant at seeing the revival of the ballet flat, with so many different iterations popping up now in both high street and high end collections, it’s evident that this humble shoe is not going anywhere.

If all you have are summery flats, here are some options to take you through the colder months – and party season! – in style and comfort:

Russell & Bromley – €315

These Mary-Jane ballerina pumps from Russell & Bromley have such an iconic retro feel to them. Crafted in Italy from patent black leather, they are sure to see you through the winter season paired with ankle socks or tights, and beyond into the summer months when bare legs are back. A great investment pair.

Cos – €125

Metallic is really having a moment of late. Seen everywhere from silver pants to gold boots, this trend is a fun one to try as it breaks up the often mundane shades associated with winter wardrobes.

Zara – €39.95

This mesh black take on the ballet shoe trend is a little edgier. It would look great with a pair of leather look trousers and satin top for a slightly grungier version of the otherwise cutesy ballet look.

Net-a-porter – €690

Leopard print is not going anywhere anytime soon and this pair from Gianvito Rossi are pretty impressive. Styled here with a striking red coat, embrace the maximalist approach and team your prints with bright colours. Sometimes, more is more!

Fabucci – €159.99

These very dainty flats are from Fabucci, a gorgeous little shoe store located in Naas, Co Kildare. The beige tones and Chanel-inspired design exudes Parisian style and will make any outfit look instantly chic.

Mango – €49.99

The block heel on these metallic gold ballet flats can add a little extra height for an evening look or be worn during the day with a tailored suit for a structured yet feminine look.
