From eco-conscious frames to performance glasses, classic styles and more modern options too, these are the Irish sunglasses brands to have on your radar.
The Irish weather may not always play ball but a good pair of sunglasses can make an outfit – even if the sun has gone missing in action.
As much as we’d like to assure you that the summer will be warm and sunny with nothing but blue skies, unfortunately, we don’t have that power. No amount of manifesting can guarantee a cloudless day. But, even still, a good pair of sunglasses is always worth having to hand – just in case!
MAiE

An Irish-owned sunglasses brand already with a cult following, MAiE was created by Dubliner Robyn Trout. A firm believer that sunglasses are more than just an accessory, each design is inspired by a different destination around the world, from Marrakech in Morocco to Bali in Indonesia. Capturing the beauty and spirit of what makes each place so special, each pair comes in vibrant colourways that are both stylish and adventurous. I tried the Marnie in Rich Tortoise (€145) on last time I was in Loot on Drury Street, and well, I’ve been thinking about them ever since…a sure sign they’re meant to be mine, no?
Studio92

A modern eyewear studio founded by Bonnie Ryan, Studio92 specialises in classic sunglasses, designed to feel effortless yet elevated. Shape and comfort are a key focus, with each pair crafted from premium materials and fitted with high-quality lenses for both protection and visual clarity. The website currently has six different styles on offer, ranging in price from €115 to €130. I love the MABLE in black (€125), which features an oval frame with slightly tapered, round feline edges – very chic.
Mantra Official

A premium online destination for high-quality footwear and accessories, Mantra Official was co-founded by friends Siobhan Murray, Suzanne Jackson, and Terrie McEvoy. Trying to bridge the gap between quality and affordability, they describe their sunglasses as investment pieces without the hefty price tag. On their website you’ll find plenty of options, from oversized cat eye shapes to bold, angular frames, and retro silhouettes with modern flair.
everambr

Dubliners Sacha and Dan founded their first glasses brand, Ambr Eyewear back in 2017, growing the business from their kitchen table to a brand with an international presence in over 85 countries. Over the past few years, the brand has evolved. It’s now called everambr and has expanded its range to focus on functional eyewear designed for athletic performance, productive work, and better sleep. If you’re training for a marathon, enjoy cycling or getting out on the trail, they have plenty of options to suit.
Woodlife

For the sustainably minded, Wood Life is the way to go. An online store based in Galway, they also have their own range of handcrafted, eco-friendly wooden sunglasses. On a mission to encourage people to consume more mindfully, they work together with several NGOs on tree planting and wildlife conservation – they plant two trees for every purchase they make. Every pair of sunglasses has Polarised lenses with UV400 and is made from 100% organic farmed wood.
Pewpols

Inspired by centuries of Irish design and craftsmanship, Pewpols designs reflect the beauty and culture of the Emerald Isle. Established in 2019 by Niall O’Sullivan, each pair of sunglasses has been handcrafted at their atelier in Italy. The O’Hooligan are a personal favourite – drawing inspiration from Irish punk culture, and featuring sharp lines and striking details that echo the movement’s defiant attitude. A standout piece for those who dare to be different.
Wolfhound (via Optica Dublin)

Inspired by Ireland’s literature, landscape and culture, Wolfhound eyewear is designed and sold exclusively at Optica. Situated on Dawson Street, their home – in the heart of Georgian Dublin – stocks everything from the luxury eyewear brands you would expect to cult brands to excite and inspire. This is the place to go for sunglasses you’re bound to get complimented on every time you wear them.
