Yvonne Thomson is a nutrition coach and CrossFit instructor. Originally from Scotland and now living in Kildare with her husband and two children (13 and 11), Yvonne’s reason for taking part in the series is one many readers may relate to.
“I work in the gym and train everyday so am constantly in gym clothes,” she said. “I love my job but would also love to feel glam and feminine again.”
Tell us about a time you felt your most beautiful?
Definitely my wedding day! My makeup was glam, yet natural. I’ve never felt so confident.
Which part of your beauty regime is non-negotiable for you?
Moisturiser, it’s the first thing I do after I wash every morning. I don’t feel ready for the day without moisturising my face. I have always used the Clarins Instant Eye Makeup Remover and I love it. I can’t leave the house without my mascara and lip balm on, either.
What was the first cosmetic item you ever bought?
I remember buying some baby lotion from the local chemist. I was a swimmer for Aberdeen and my skin was always so dry. I thought, ‘If this was good enough for babies’ skin it would be good for my dry skin.’

How do you prioritise self-care?
I train at my CrossFit Gym at least five times a week and I walk my dogs every day, too, so I’m always active. I’m 47 now and exercise, for me, is a big part of my self-care.
How has your beauty regime changed as you’ve gotten older?
It is so important to cleanse and moisturise every day. When I was younger, removing makeup every night before bed was a hit or a miss, but now I know how important it is every day and it’s become part of my nightly routine. Also, giving yourself a wee face mask every other weekend as a treat is that extra bit of self-care.
What advice do you give your children?
My daughter is 13 and loves makeup so I always encourage her to remove it after experimenting, keep her skin hydrated by drinking lots of water and to eat good food, but also not to get too hung up on all the adverts out there about keeping her skin young. If she does the basics, she will be grateful when she’s older.
