8 gorgeous shoe brands that cater for women with larger feet

Between smaller-fitting ranges and confusing labelling, finding stylish shoes in bigger sizes can be a nightmare for women with wide or large feet

We’ve all heard the male equivalent of the joke but what do you call a woman with big feet? Someone who has a tough time finding stylish shoes with a decent fit.

Not as pithy perhaps, but certainly true – at least, up until recent years.

There are often assumptions made that a bigger foot equals a wider foot, which can result in a narrow foot rattling around in the larger size. Bigger feet are also associated with taller women, with many shoe brands assuming that they will not want to wear high heels. This leads to a shortage of stylish, on-trend stilettos or heeled shoes in larger sizes so that if you’re not quick off the mark, you’ve lost out on the chance to purchase them.

Thankfully, things are changing and although you may still have to act fast to get the size you want, it’s reassuring to know that more and more brands are accommodating those with larger feet. Here are some of our favourites:

River Island

Gold metallic platform heeled sandals – €47

Despite using the smaller sizing of 8 (41), River Island more than makes up for it by having many trendy footwear styles available in a wide-fit or a size 9 (42).

ASOS

Penza pointed high heeled court shoes in gold – €19.50 (sale price)

ASOS is known for catering for all sizes and that ethos carries through to its footwear for women. The eternally popular website is home to a huge range of shoe styles and brands, many of which go up to an impressive size 13.

Next

Buy Forever Comfort® Flare Platform Sandals – €57

With most of the shoe ranges on the website going up to Size 9 (43), Next has an excellent selection of statement sandals, heels, flats, trainers, boots and more to ensure you are always putting your best foot forward.

Office

Converse chuck all-star hi “The Everyday Icon” – €70

Did you know that women’s shoes in Office go up to a size 13? These iconic converse trainers are currently available up to a size 12 but only because the larger size is sold out. There are Converse shoes available in other colours though so if you thought they didn’t cater for bigger feet, think again.

Marks & Spencer

Leather ankle strap stiletto heel mules – €105

Just because you have large feet does not mean you have to do your best to minimise or hide them. Add a pop of colour to a plain ensemble with these gorgeous lime green leather mules from M&S. The retailer is known for it’s wide-fitting shoe range from everyday basics to stylish occasionwear. And even though it has a limited selection of shoes in size 9 (43), almost every shoe comes in a size 8 (a generous 42).

Long Tall Sally

LTS diamante slingback heel courts – €68

If you are a woman with large feet, get yourself to the Long Tall Sally website immediately. Its range of regular, wide, and extra-wide fits means that they have the perfect shoe for any occasion, so you can always step out with style and confidence. With sizes ranging from a UK3 to UK13, there really is something for everyone.

Oxendales Ireland

Slingback wedge espadrilles – €36.50

The Oxendales website’s footwear page is extremely user-friendly with four different width settings (standard, wide, extra-wide, ultra-wide) and sizes ranging from UK2 to UK14!

Cinderella Shoes

BOTTEGA Suede and crystal rope embellished sandal – €85

These plush slip-on sandals will take you from day to evening wear and add a touch of understated class to your ensemble, whatever the occasion. They are available from a UK9 – UK13 and are just one of a very decent selection of larger styles on the Cinderella Shoes website.
