Ireland’s weather is famously unpredictable, but this time of year always guarantees one thing: the cold. Bitter mornings and harsh winds can result in dry, irritated skin, and air-conditioned offices can only add to that. To help you during those tough months, we have compiled our five top tips to help you survive winter and keep your skin happy.

  1. Keep hands moisturised
There’s nothing more uncomfortable than dry, cracked hands, so when the weather turns colder it’s worth investing in a cream to keep in your bag. L’Occitane’s Shea Butter Hand Cream is an award-winning classic and is the perfect rescue.
  2. Don’t scrub off your makeup
Makeup removers can be harsh on the skin, so it’s important to ensure you’re not using one that strips your skin of its moisture. Opt for a cleansing balm to gently melt off your makeup, such as the VOYA Totally Balmy Facial Cleansing Balm. If you need to remove makeup in a rush, purchase a moisturising micellar water for your makeup table, such as the Garnier Milky Micellar Water.
  3. Serums are your friend!
The best secret for dewy, healthy skin is a serum applied in the evening. Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate contains luxurious lavender and evening primrose oils to keep skin supple and hydrated in the cold winter months. Gently pat onto clean skin to lock in an extra layer of moisture.
  4. Pamper yourself with a sheet mask
Sheet masks are the perfect extra hit to revitalise tired skin. The Garnier Fresh-Mix Tissue Mask With Vitamin C is perfect for brightening dull winter skin. The Origin’s Flower Fusion Jasmine Sheet Mask is another brilliant product, featuring bamboo and flower extracts to leave skin glowing and refreshed.
  5. Use a chemical exfoliant
Cold weather can leave your skin flaky and irritated. If this is the case with you, choose a toner with skin-friendly acids to get rid of dead skin cells. The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution is a cult product that will provide some glow – just make sure to use it sparingly to avoid drying out your skin! If you need something more intensive, consider the L’Oreal Revitalift Ampoules, a 7-day kit containing Hyaluronic Acid to re-plump and smooth skin.
