We’re spoiled on this island of ours, with a coastline of stunning beaches to choose from. But which one is the best?

Condé Nast Traveller put together a list of the world’s best beaches, and a certain Mayo beach earned itself a podium finish.

Condé Nast Traveller has ranked Keem Bay in Mayo as number three on its list of the 20 best beaches in the world.

Journalist Lizzie Pook writes: “It’s a windy road to Keem Bay, but the staggering cliff-top views are worth it. This sheltered inlet, on Achill Island in County Mayo, is almost unknown to visitors, but its clear malachite waters and soft biscuit sand make it a family-friendly spot – that’s also wonderfully crowd-free.”

Top of the list is Grande Anse in Grenada in the Caribbean, followed by Honopu Beach at Kauai in Hawaii.

Keem Bay beat beaches in picturesque French Polynesia, Greece and Brazil on the list. Check out the list in full here.

You will find Keem Bay past Dooagh village in the west of Achill Island in County Mayo.

Hillwalkers can take in views over this horseshoe-shaped beach by taking a 1.5 km walk along the top of the cliffs of Benmore, towards Achill Head, the most westerly point of Achill Island.
