Michael Murphy Home Furnishing is an Irish success story with family and quality customer service at its heart

On the 21st of June 1974, in the then small, but bustling town of Newbridge, County Kildare, a young businessman, Michael Murphy and his sister Margaret, opened their first home furnishing store.

A Wexford native, Michael wanted to bring stylish, high-quality furniture, designed and selected by the Murphy family, to families across Newbridge and beyond.

Just two years later in 1976 the brand opened in a second location on the Quay, New Ross, Co. Wexford – not far from where Michael himself grew up in Fethard-on-Sea.

Fast-forward 45 years and the Michael Murphy Home Furnishing brand has gone from strength to strength, with Joe Murphy, Michael’s son, now the company’s CEO, continuing to drive the brand to expand with fresh energy and passion.

“My earliest memory [of the company] would definitely be the Fire Sale that we had in our Newbridge store as a result of the Irish Ropes factory burning down. It was an incredible time, we had lines forming outside the store; it was a free-for-all,” says Joe.

Now with two stores in Newbridge, a mainline store as well as an outlet store and another five stores across Swords, Sandyford, New Ross, Wexford Town and Blanchardstown, Michael Murphy Home Furnishing has become Ireland’s leading independent family-owned furniture retailer.

The stylish and sophisticated options available from Michael Murphy stores are the result of Joe’s regular, international buying trips, hand-selecting and designing each and every collection to bring the best of interiors right to your doorstep.

“We listen to our customers’ needs and combine that requirement with the different designs and trends we’ve studied from all over the world. We then take those ideas to our manufacturers and they create that exclusive design for us.

“We are a proud stockist of many Irish-made products too, with home-grown art, mattresses, cushions and even more in-stores.”

The company continues to pride itself on its top class customer service, with an experienced and qualified team, some of whom have worked for the family business for up to thirty-five years.

“Thanks to the wealth of experience within our sales staff, we now have three generations of customers that shop with us and customer service remains at the heart of everything we do,” explains Joe. “We always keep the customer in mind; carrying on the relationship built upon with families over generations.”

Michael Murphy Home Furnishing are celebrating 45 years in business with their biggest ever summer sale. Visit their store locations in in Airside, Blanchardstown and Sandyford, Wexford, New Ross and Newbridge or shop online at www.michaelmurphy.ie.
