Support the work of Mountain Rescue Ireland’s volunteers and take on the 5KMay challenge
“We are all people who love the outdoors and the mountains, and to be able to help people like ourselves in their moment of need is rewarding,” Gerard Condon of Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team (DWMRT) said in our feature on Mountain Rescue Ireland in the March | April issue of Irish Country Magazine.
So many of us have flocked to the hills and peaks of Ireland when restrictions have allowed, not just for physical exercise but also for the solace that time in nature provides.
However for experienced and novice hikers alike, accidents happen, and people may lose their way. That is when members of Mountain Rescue Ireland answer the call. Did you know that Ireland has 11 mountain rescue teams, with over 350 members, all of whom are volunteers? These people give their time, 365 days a year, 24/7, and train extensively so that they are ready to respond when someone gets into trouble on a mountain.
Covid-19 has put traditional fundraising events on hold, so this year, Mountain Rescue Ireland is asking people to run/swim/walk/cycle a 5K challenge, donate €5 to Mountain Rescue Ireland, and tag five friends to encourage them to do the same.
