Irish Country Magazine beauty writer Adele Miner shares her biggest spring/summer makeup trend predictions.
As a beauty writer and lover in equal measure, my eyes are always peeled for upcoming beauty trends, treatments, brands and anything else in between. At the moment, there’s plenty to choose from in the makeup world. Recent events and popular media is shaping how we’ll do our makeup for the foreseeable – for example the beautifully natural makeup the cast of Wuthering Heights graced the big screen with, and Jessie Buckley’s luminous base during her award season red carpet appearances.
Let’s take a look at some of the four biggest, and attainable, trends.
Luxury skin
It’s still all about that base, as many makeup artists are focusing on light but luxurious-looking skin. This means having a glow in all the right places, wearing a foundation that matches perfectly, and layering light but buildable skin, contour and blush for an end result that looks like you, but after a two week holiday. This is achievable first and foremost by having a solid skincare routine that targets skin health and overall appearance. From there, there are emerging skincare hybrids like the Clarins Double Serum Foundation, which blends foundation with a hydrating a luminating serum for a flawless effect.

Cream bronzers
While we tend to pay more attention to cream blush for a natural flushed finish, cream bronzers are also the key to a natural and seamless base. While a powder blush can sometimes look and feel a little heavy or glitzy, a cream bronzer can be warmed up using a makeup brush and blended flawlessly into the skin to bring a suede-like texture to the skin.

Natural brows
Of everything on our face, our brows usually take the biggest beating. From overplucking to laminating and dyeing, there’s no trend that our eyebrows haven’t fallen victim to. Finally, it seems we will be leaving them alone for the next while as natural eyebrows are set to be big this spring. Allowing them to grow into whatever shape they please, we’re seeing celebrities on red carpets give their eyebrows just a little tweezing and setting them in place with a good brow gel. For this, I personally love POCO Beauty’s Baby Lam Invisible Brow Wax as no other brow product comes close to holding my brows in place as well as it.

Blurred lips
Also at the helm of the ‘no makeup’ makeup movement happening right now, blurred lips is a romantic take on a statement lip. Giving the illusion of there being something there, blurred lips don’t involve heavily overlining your lips, but instead delicately going in with a lipstick or line and blurring with a makeup brush or your fingers until it simply looks like something was left behind. Just as your lips would look after you’ve been sipping tea, the blurred lips trend aims to give your lipstick a lived in look that looks like your lips, but better. The one difference with this trend is that it doesn’t have to be achieved using a natural colour lipstick, you can go in with any colour you like – it could be red or orange, they key is choosing a lip colour with a velvety-texture, making it easy to blend and blur.
