We’ve got a finger on the pulse of what’s on in the coming week

Get building this weekend with the Brick Expo in Athlone

Whether you’d like to head on a hike or swing around a dancefloor, there’s plenty happening all weekend and beyond to keep you busy.

The Climb

Climb with Charlie takes place on Saturday, 2 April at a peak near you! In solidarity with journalist Charlie Bird, there are mountain climbs and hikes taking place across the country to raise money for two vital charities, Pieta House and IMNDA. The former reporter was diagnosed with motor neurone disease last year and will climb Mayo’s Croagh Patrick along with friends, family and followers. Find a climb here.

Le(ts)go

If lockdown made the children in your house Lego-building experts, there’s plenty happening in the coming week to inspire and delight. They’ll have to wait until this summer to visit the country’s first in-person store on Dublin’s Grafton Street. But for now, head to Athlone on Sunday for the Brick Expo. From speedbuilding to facepainting, it’s an ideal family day out. Tickets start at €5, and are available on Eventbrite.

Spring in your step

A Winter Music Festival, taking place in spring, comes to Ballincollig, Co Cork from 7 April. Enjoy four days of music and fun with performances from the White Horse Guitar Club and Steve Cooney. Plus, Cormac Begley, Matt Molloy & John Carty and many more. See more and book your tickets here.

Swings and roundabouts

Connor McKeon ‘Legends of Swing’ returns to the stage this month, promising the ‘best swing show in town.’ They will bring the best big band hits from Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, Louis Armstrong and other musical legends from The Great American SongBook to Dublin and Wexford on 7 April and 1 May. Connor and the 14-piece band will perform at the National Concert Hall in Dublin and Wexford’s Opera House. Tickets start at €18 and are on sale now from nch.ie and nationaloperahouse.ie.

Fill it up

In Dublin’s Wicklow Street branch of renowned beauty brand L’OCCITANE, a new sustainable refill station has just opened. Head in this weekend to bottle or refill your favourites. The Refill Fountains are opening across 60 boutiques in 27 countries with the aim of reducing one ton of plastic within the first year. Customers are able to select the product of their choice and choose from two refill sizes by bringing in an empty bottle or purchasing the new Forever Bottle. They are available in 250ml and 500ml and made of long-lasting, lightweight and recyclable aluminium. Plus, each bottle is embellished with the imagery of L’OCCITANE’s signature ingredients. The one-time purchase of a full Forever Bottle is the same price as the classic product of the same size.
