Shampoo bars are an eco-friendly alternative thanks to the fact they require no plastic packaging and are often made with earth-friendly ingredients.

Shampoo bars – what’s the low-down?

If you’re considering ditching your liquid shampoo for a solid bar of shampoo, go you! Not only are the bars a great way to helping the environment thanks to the fact they usually come without plastic packaging, there’s lots of other benefits, too. Shampoo bars are easy to use (just lather them in as you would your body or hand soap), travel-friendly, compact, long-lasting, and the majority of bars contain no additives or sodium. They also tend to be kind to your wallet, as you can shop most for under €10 and they last for up to 80 washes. According to one of our favourite eco-conscious brands Lush, “You create a smaller carbon footprint when washing with these compact latherers… one lorry full of solid shampoo bars holds roughly the same number of washes as fifteen lorries filled with liquid shampoo!”.

Of course, as with all beauty products, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all product out there, but typically shampoo bars are jam-packed with hair-friendly ingredients such as organic oils. If you haven’t already tried out the newest hair craze in the beauty world, here are some of our favourite shampoo bars, including some #IrishMade products:

Earth Kind bergamot & sage soap, Holland & Barrett (€6.09)

Palm free shampoo bar, earthmother.ie, (€4.95) #IrishMade

Solid shampoo bar, threehillsoap.ie, (€11) #IrishMade

Rosemary & rosewood shampoo, skelligsoaps.com, (€8.50) #IrishMade

Coconut shampoo bars, Lush, (€9)
