Irish Country Magazine Editor, Klara Heron, shares her favourite moments in the September|October issue, featuring Jessica and Peter O’Mahony on the cover, out now
There’s something about autumn that makes me excited. The change in weather sparks a change of pace for many of us, as we get back to routine.
For me, I love the cooler temperatures and the darker evenings because they go hand in hand with seeking out comforting recipes to cook, lighting candles, going for walks amongst golden leaves and lining up great autumn TV (Strictly Come Dancing is an annual favourite and I’m also looking forward to The Traitors Ireland).
This is also my favourite time of year because the Irish Made Awards finalists for 2025 are live! After a highly competitive judging day in July, we whittled it down to the best of the best – the top businesses making products on the island of Ireland – and it is now time for you to have a say. Pick up the new issue in shops now to vote for your favourites.
The excitement doesn’t stop there. I’m delighted to have Peter and Jessica O’Mahony front this issue as they navigate the next chapter for their family since Peter’s retirement from professional rugby. Lovelier people you couldn’t meet, and to be welcomed into their home – and impeccable garden – to take photos and get to know them was an honour. The pair kept us laughing throughout the shoot, with Peter tending to his garden and Jessica affectionately slagging him as we went. Read about their passions and plans inside the magazine.
The theme of reinvention threads itself nicely from our cover stars throughout this issue, especially in Style and Self Care, where you’ll find helpful guides to new season dressing and time-saving beauty tips. I especially enjoyed Megan Fox’s fashion story (page 40), where she celebrates pre-loved pieces and shares tips for embracing slow fashion over fast.
Although heavy reading, in The Invisible Struggle we are deep diving into the topic of stalking. This is the first instalment of a three-part series by Niamh Devereux, which looks at the issue of violence against women. The aim over the next three issues, is to give voice to victims, share the supports that are available to them and their families and to hear from experts on how we need to do more to protect women in this country.
Whatever feature speaks to you, I hope you find lots of inspiration in these pages. I love hearing your feedback so be sure to get in touch if you’d like to share your thoughts. Happy reading, Klara.
