podcasting wave

Featuring candid conversations about everything from mental health and parenthood to sport and the Irish language, these podcasts offer a refreshing blend of humour, honesty and insight

As International Women’s Day approaches, we feel the time is right to celebrate the talented ladies taking over our airwaves by sharing the podcasts that inspire and motivate us right now. Here are some must-listen shows led by Irish women:

1. What a Woman with Sarah Benner and Caroline Lyons

If you’re looking to get stuck into a great podcast showcasing the remarkable strength of women, this is the one for you. What a Woman podcast is about inspirational women with powerful stories. 2. The Laura Dowling Experience

Best known to her legions of fans as the Fabulous Pharmacist on social media, Laura Dowling uses her podcast to have in-depth, personal and often deeply emotional conversations about topics including addiction, trauma, sex, health, science and everything in between. Her natural curiosity about life and warm interview style makes this a fascinating listen every time.

3. How to Gael with Doireann Ní Ghlacáin, Louise Cantillon, and Síomha Ní Ruairc

Have you been thinking about revisiting your ‘cúpla focail’ from school? We love that there’s now a podcast presented by exceptionally cool Irish women encouraging us all to embrace our national language. Join Doireann, Louise, and Síomha as they explore life bilingually and ‘as Gaeilge’ on How to Gael. You can tune in whether you’re fluent in Irish or just getting started. It’s not all boring verb conjugations and homework though. The podcast promises “bilingual bottomless brunch, car chats with your cairde, agust an stuff atá i do ghrúpa whatsapp”. Sign us up!

4. Ready to be Real with Síle Seoige

In this podcast series, presenter Síle Seoige chats to people of all walks of life; those who are well-known, along with those who have extraordinary stories to tell. As well as that, she also features topic-lead conversations with a particular expert in their field. Having started the podcast in 2019, Síle continues to enthrall her listeners with gripping episodes and captivating guests.

5. The COYGIG Pod with Kathleen McNamee and Karen Duggan

If you want to know more about the incredible women in Irish sport, join Kathleen McNamee and former Ireland international Karen Duggan every week for a roundup of all the big news in women’s football across Ireland and the Women’s Super League (WSL). You’ll find plenty of debate over the team of the week and big-name guests giving inside information on life in the world of women’s football.

6. The Good Glow with Georgie Crawford

Georgie Crawford started The Good Glow in the wake of a breast cancer diagnosis that transformed her outlook on life. Through conversations with wellness experts and real people with incredible stories, she explores the importance of self-care and positive change. On the air since 2018, Georgie’s podcast career has gone from strength to strength, adding two more podcasts, The Good Glow Health and Better Days with high performance coach Gerry Hussey, to her broadcasting arsenal.
