Shake up your year for the better with these tips.
Stuck in a rut? Feel like a bit stagnant in various parts of your life? There’s never a bad time to refocus on what’s important to you and try to improve. Here are some simple tips to get you started — you may be pleasantly surprised by how little changes in perspective and attitude can make a difference.
For you:
Self-care is so important and should be apart of your everyday routine. You are the person that you spend the most time with in your life so make sure that you are in the best shape, both physically and mentally. Life can be so hectic sometimes and often we spend so much time looking at everyone else that we forget to look after ourselves. In life, we take on so many things and it is not only our bodies that need a break, our minds do too. Taking the time to relax or think about your feeling can be a great way to relieve any stress or address any issues that might be building up.
For your career:
If there is something you have been wanting to do in your career then this is the year to set out a plan. Whether it be a career change, a new business idea that you want to develop, a promotion that you feel you are ready for, a wage increase that you think you have worked hard for or you might want to take time off from your career all together, make this the year that you put the gears in motion. Life is too short and if you’ve been thinking about a change then you owe it to yourself to give it a shot. If it doesn’t work out, you just start over. Set yourself a realistic goal and talk to people for advice.
For your health:
Your health is your wealth so make sure you listen to your body. If you feel like there might be an issue there is no harm in visiting your doctor. The doctors fee and waiting times can often turn people off but it could be the best money you’ve ever spent if it helps your day-to-day life. Maintaining a healthy balanced diet is essential for good health so make sure you are eating regularly and drinking at least two litres of water per day.
For your family:
Instead of spending money on material things this year, spend it on experiences. Taking the time out to go somewhere or do a fun activity can be worth so much more than a toy or pair of runners. Spending time with the people you love can be one of the most rewarding things to do. Experiences don’t have to be expensive, you can go for a family walk in the park and feed the ducks or get a football and go to a large green space and play a match. Yes, your little one might really love the new doll or your brother might really enjoy playing with his Xbox game, but guarantee in a few years time they will remember and appreciate a family day out more than they would a toy or a game.
For your friends:
If you haven’t talked to your friend in a while, why not give them a call or meet them for a coffee and a catch-up? Life can get so hectic that we sometimes might not get the chance to keep in contact with friends as much as we would like to but it is always amazing to talk or and catch-up on everything that has been going on in your lives.
For others:
Helping others is one of the most rewarding things anyone can do. A little favour can go along way, so this year make it your business to help out others. That doesn’t mean you have to donate large sums of money to a charity or run a marathon to raise money, you can simply just donate your time. Whether it be volunteering in your community or looking after someone when they might just need the extra bit of help, every little helps. No one knows what the future holds, but it would be nice to think that if you were ever in a position that you needed help, that there would be someone there.
For the environment:
Climate change is one of most significant issues facing the planet right now. Our environment is being put under an enormous amount of pressure and our natural resources are being exhausted. Living a sustainable life doesn’t have to be so different to your current way of living, in fact, it’s the small changes that we all make that could potentially make a huge difference in time. We are not going to be here forever, but we’d like to think that we are looking after the planet to the best of our abilities so that future generations are not paying for the mistakes of past generations. Looking at the developments in technology, medicine, science and even our legal systems over the past few decades, it is clear to see that when we put our minds to it, we can really achieve the unimaginable. So before it’s too late, let’s all aim to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle.
Lastly, make the most of everyday because life is too short to live is any other way!
