BIAB nails

We asked an expert to give us the lowdown on how the two popular nail trends vary and her personal favourite style

Whether you get your nails done regularly or are just planning to get them done for a special event, it’s important to know what is best for your nail health.

We chatted to Ana Luísa Fiúza Motta from Hillary.ie to find out the main differences between the two most sought-after nail treatments at this time of year:

What’s the main difference between BIAB nails and Gel nails?

BIAB (Builder in a Bottle) is thicker and stronger, great for building up weak nails or creating a bit of length. Gel nails would be more to create length and extend your nail in a faster way.

Which do you recommend to your clients and why?

Depends on what they need! If their nails are weak, I’d go with BIAB because it adds strength and helps them grow out. If you need your nails to be long right away, you should go with Gel nails.

What’s the best way to remove BIAB or gel nails?

Soak them off properly with acetone and patience—no peeling or picking! Picking wrecks your nails. Wrap them in foil with cotton pads soaked in 100% acetone and let them sit for a bit.

Do you recommend taking a break in between getting your nails done?

It’s not always necessary if your nail tech does them properly, but if your nails feel weak or you’ve been going nonstop for months, a little break with some oils or strengtheners can help.

What’s the best way to maintain strong, healthy nails?

Cuticle oil or strengtheners all the time! Keep them moisturised, wear gloves when cleaning, and don’t use your nails as tools. A good diet helps too -your nails needs vitamins like biotin.

What’s your favourite design to do on nails?

A French manicure is my go-to when you need something classy. Chrome nails have been seen a big resurgence too – no matter what colour you have in mind, a chrome finish is always a way to make them look even nicer!

Why do you think BIAB and Gel nails are so popular?

They’re durable and look amazing. Plus, they make nails feel stronger, and you can have flawless colour designs for weeks. Low effort, high reward!
