The body of photographic work celebrating mothers in Ireland is available to view until 21 July
A photography exhibit has captured the beauty and strength of motherhood with a series of exquisite images that reflect this transformative period.
The Mother Project is the brainchild of photographers Aoife Long and Marta Rodríguez García who embarked on an inspiring journey across Ireland to capture the essence of a new generation of mothers. Traveling through picturesque landscapes and vibrant communities, they sought to document the profound and varied experiences of motherhood.
Their journey led them to connect with mothers from diverse backgrounds, each with a unique story to tell. Through the project, Aoife and Marta caught intimate and powerful moments that portray the beauty, strength, and vulnerability of mothers as they navigate the life-changing months from maiden to mother. Their work, which depicts women in their favourite woods, beaches, fields and homes, celebrates the universal yet deeply personal journey of motherhood in modern Ireland.
Shoot locations included Tipperary, Kilkenny, Kildare, Dublin, Mayo, Sligo and Kerry.
Aoife Long, lead photographer of The Mother Project and founder of Spirit & Luxury studio, commented: “There is a new generation of mothers here in Ireland and they deserve imagery which reflects their grounded nature and full trust in their bodies. Maternity photography has become the new wedding photography.
“It is an honour to capture the ultimate love story.”
“The vast majority of mothers featured in the project have returned home to Ireland to give birth at home,” she continued. “With them, they have brought stories of deep joy, unimaginable loss, transformative birth and full trust.
“While shooting The Mother Project, I’ve heard the most incredible stories of IVF, betrayal, the miraculous and the mundane. It is a profound privilege to photograph women in their favourite wild places and we thank the fourteen mamas who opened their hearts and homes to The Mother Project.”
She added: “Our hope is that this project invites medical professionals and society at large to communicate with this new generation of mothers, who are extremely well educated, perceptive, intuitive and trusting and who are making very different choices.”
