Homegrown Irish products are about to gain even more prominence on German retailer Lidl’s shelves

Lidl Ireland is introducing 70+ homegrown Irish products across its 210 stores for an all-Ireland promotion starting Thursday 12th August. With over 260 local suppliers already in Lidl Ireland’s portfolio, Kickstart is the retailer’s supplier development programme. It is heading into its fifth year and spotlighting 43 small suppliers.

Lidl has invested more than €6 million into the programme since its inception in 2017 and is supported by Bord Bia. It is designed to give smaller food and drink businesses the opportunity to advance their product and business.  The programme gives the businesses the support they need to flourish.

Hitting the shelves this week are some stellar Irish made products. Joining the ranks of alcoholic seltzers are Loki & Co, with Mourne Dew Distillery offering poitín. Crust & Crumb have expanded their pizza line in-store, and Irwin’s bakery is on hand for traditional bread. From artisan cheese to speciality coffee, there are delicious and affordable options for all tastes.

Check out some of the new offerings:

Wild Irish Seaweed Seasoning Jars, €4.99 each

Seaweed has become a coveted superfood, seen as a natural way to add extra vitamins and minerals to your diet, as well as some flavour. Although a relatively new phenomenon in the modern Irish food market, Clare-based seaweed harvesters, Wild Irish Seaweed, have been supplying seaweed for more than 100 years across 4 generations.

Meltdown’s Hot Stuff Hot Sauce, €3.79 each

Meltdown Hot Stuff (6 x 300ml) | Meltdown

Fans of Meltdown’s infamous toasties will already be familiar with this spicy staple.  Hot Stuff is a delicious tomato and habanero based hot sauce produced in Ireland, made with Irish ingredients. The sauce is rich, sweet, spicy and salty and heats up any dish from cheese toasties to eggs, soups, and stews. It’s also a great dipping sauce for pizza, sausage rolls and anything else you want to add a little kick to.

Skelligs Chocolate Cocoa Bean Bars, €2.99 each

Skelligs Chocolate Bar - Lidl Ireland - www.lidl.ie

Each plant-based bar is made using a unique 54% cocoa recipe. As a result, it has a ‘middle of the road’ finish as a light, almost dark type of chocolate. Cocoa Bean Bar creator, Darren O’Connor, decided to infuse his interests in the plant-based world with his passion for chocolate. He developed an environmentally-friendly product that still tastes amazing and comes in 100% recyclable packaging.

Brehon Brewhouse Craft Beers, €2.79 each

Brehon Brewhouse Beer - Lidl Ireland - www.lidl.ie

Brehon Brewhouse from Co Monaghan brings together two of Ireland’s cultural delights into one bottle: poetry and craft beer. Stemming from a conversation over the dinner table, farmer Seamus McMahon set up a small brewery on the family farm.

Lidl Ireland is again calling on Irish food and drink, and for the first time, non-food producers to apply now for its 2022 Kickstart Supplier Development Programme. Once applications close at the end of the year, Lidl Ireland will choose a selection of suppliers to take part in the programme next summer.

This limited-edition promotion launches in all 210 Lidl stores across Ireland and Northern Ireland from Thursday 12th August. It is available while stocks last only, so make sure to check out the range in your local Lidl.
