Beauty Writer Adele Miner shares an honest review on the AyuGlo Self Tanning Mousse.
As an Irish woman who rarely sees the sunlight, fake tan is a solid staple in my beauty bag. Whether it’s simply putting on a lick of gradual tanning moisturiser after the shower or doing a full Tan Thursday routine for an occasion, along the way I’ve learned a thing or two about making my tan look as good, and natural, as possible.
Along with the basics of exfoliating beforehand and never applying tan onto my legs directly after shaving, I’ve also figured out which brand works for me best. When I run out of one bottle, I’ll instantly replace it with the same one, never straying. Until now, it had been Bondi Sands, specifically the Self Tanning Foam. Easy to apply, dark enough to give me a visible tan, but not too dark that it looks unnatural.
My loyalty was impenetrable, until I tried AyuGlo’s Self Tanning Mousse, that is.
You might be familiar with Ayu Cosmetics, an Irish owned and based vegan cosmetics brand creating beauty products from cream cleansers to mascaras.

Venturing into the world of tan, the Self Tanning Mousse is described on the website as: “easy to use, fast drying and packed with skin loving ingredients, including Vitamin E and Truffle Extract making it suitable for all skin types”.
My thoughts
Trying it out for myself, I can always tell if a tan is going to work for me from the moment I begin to apply it. If it doesn’t slide on easily, forget about it. From the first swipe, the Self Tanning Mousse was a dream to apply and blend. The key here is that it has a natural guide colour, making it easy to see what you’re doing. One coat of this stuff is plenty for a natural tan, so don’t get tempted to go in with more.
From there, my skin felt and looked instantly hydrated, and thankfully within 10-15 minutes that sticky fake tan feeling had gone and I could pop on my pjs and get to sleep, allowing the colour to develop. The tan claims to have ‘excellent antioxidant properties’ in its mousse which works to hydrate and nourish the skin.

The next morning, my tan was looking pretty good and with a quick shower to remove the top layer, it was exactly how I like my tan to look – natural, even and giving me a visible glow.
The tan also claims an even fade, which in my experience using it the first time wasn’t entirely the case. However, after using it a few more times I realised that keeping my skin moisturised daily and through lightly exfoliating the shower the tan wears off perfectly.
Pros: The application is fool-proof, gliding on with ease and leaving behind no streaks or lines. The product, like all Ayu Cosmetics products, is also vegan, meaning it contains no animal-derived ingredients.
Cons: The wear off can become a little uneven if you don’t look after your skin properly. Avoid this by moisturising and exfoliating.
Price: €22.95
Overall verdict: If you’re on the market for an easy-to-use and vegan tan, this is the perfect one to try out.
