There are some amazing bargains to be found if you’re on the hunt for a high-end luxury bag

Whether you love vintage, always try to shop sustainably or just can’t resist a bargain, you’re in luck because a pre-loved designer bag is the accessory of the summer.

Everyone should have at least one timeless investment piece but the amount you pay should not put you in debt or having you eating beans on toast for weeks.

These days, savvy fashion shoppers know that buying second-hand is the smart move – particularly when it comes to handbags. Irish startup LuxuryExchange.ie recorded €1M in turnover last year through online operations proving that there’s a high demand for top quality products at a fraction of the original cost.

Of course, they can still be quite expensive! After all, a 50% reduction on a €2000 bag is still a thousand euro but if it’s something you know you’ll wear forever, you might as well get it for half the price.

With summer 2025 in full swing, Caitriona McGettigan, founder of Luxury Exchange, shares her expert insight on the best bags to invest in this season – from iconic staples to standout trends that blend style and practicality.

Practical perfection

“Louis Vuitton’s iconic canvas is as durable as it is stylish. It’s lightweight, water-resistant, and virtually scratch-proof, made to withstand years of travel,” McGettigan explains. “For the road, try the Neverfull tote, the everyday Métis, and the Keepall – just make sure it’s the 45 if you’re flying carry-on.”

To add colour and flair to your wardrobe, McGettigan recommends turning to vintage favourites with a modern twist.

“For a timeless bag with a summer twist, vintage Lady Dior bags deliver classic elegance in vibrant colours and playful prints—perfect for the season. Fuschia pink is my personal favourite!”

The mini bags

Another must-have for Summer 2025 is the mini bag because, while compact in size, these bags pack a major fashion punch.

“Mini bags are set to be a standout trend this summer and the smaller, the better. Not sure how to style them? Think of them as a bag-meets-jewellery accessory,” says McGettigan. “Wear one alongside a larger tote or clip it on as a playful charm. The key is to go bold with bright, fun colours. Chanel’s versions are my personal favourite.”

The tennis-inspired bag

Lastly, a fresh new trend is making waves among luxury lovers: the tennis-inspired bag. Clean lines, classic colours, and heritage designs are bringing preppy, court-ready flair into everyday style.

“This summer, luxury bags with a tennis vibe are serving serious style. Think crisp whites, sporty trims, and heritage flair,” McGettigan says. “Classic Gucci duffle bags, Louis Vuitton damier ebene canvas, and vintage Hermès icons all channel that perfect blend of preppy and polished—ideal for on or off the court.”
