It may feel like the festive season has crept up on us this year, but compiling this feature has sparked excitement for the magic that comes with it. As invitations for Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, and every celebration in between start rolling in, it’s the perfect time to transition into your winter wardrobe and begin planning those holiday looks. From cosy family dinners to glamorous end-of-year parties, the anticipation of dressing up is one of the highlights of the season.
This year, the key to holiday dressing is about being intentional. Whether you’re pulling pieces from your existing wardrobe or deciding to invest in something new, the focus should be on versatility and reusability. Choose looks that can carry you effortlessly through multiple occasions – like adding festive accessories to an already beloved dress or refreshing a favourite outfit by pairing it with a faux-fur jacket, bold lipstick, or a knockout pair of heels. If you are thinking of making a new purchase, choose key pieces that you can wear time and time again. Consider classic silhouettes like A-line dresses, co-ords, wide-leg trousers, luxurious fabrics like velvet, satin, or silk, and pieces with festive touches that can be reworked into your wardrobe for future events. Metallic tones, jewel-toned blazers, or festive accessories can take you from a casual dinner party to a full-on New Year’s Eve bash.
1. Office Party
When it comes to dressing for an office party, striking the perfect balance between festive and professional is key. You want to look polished while still expressing your personal style. Whether it’s black tie, post-work dinner, rooftop drinks, or a hotel function, start with a sleek tailored dress or a chic jumpsuit in a festive hue – think deep jewel tones or classic black. These options are elegant yet special enough for the occasion.
If you prefer separates, a sophisticated blouse paired with high-waisted trousers or a midi skirt can easily transition from office to party-ready. Opt for luxe fabrics like satin, velvet, or silk to inject a festive touch. A well-fitted blazer or stylish cardigan can elevate your look without overcomplicating a work do. Accessories are where you can really take your look from day to night. A statement necklace or sparkling earrings can add the right amount of glamour without overpowering your outfit and they tuck away neatly under your desk! The goal is to look festive, feel comfortable, and enjoy the party without fussing over your outfit.
2. Christmas Day
Everybody’s Christmas Day looks different—whether it’s a laid-back family gathering, a festive brunch with friends, or a formal dinner, your outfit should strike the perfect balance between glamour and comfort—elastic waistbands for everyone! Co-ords are always a smart choice, as they can easily be dressed up or down depending on the celebration. Sleeper truly excels in this space with their day-to-night pyjamas, which can
be elevated with a pair of heels for a chic yet relaxed look.
For footwear, Nicki Hoyne has created the perfect metallic shoe. These versatile trainers can take you from a morning walk with the family to hopping between car and bar, all while keeping you comfortable and looking great. Whether you’re spending the day lounging or dancing into the night, the right pair of shoes can make all the difference. Ultimately, Christmas Day dressing is about finding pieces that let you feel festive without sacrificing comfort. From co-ords to statement shoes, there’s a way to look polished while staying relaxed throughout the day.
3. NYE
By the time New Year’s Eve rolls around, you might feel like you’ve exhausted your wardrobe options. But don’t worry—I’ve got some tips to help you refresh your look for the occasion. When it comes to NYE, many people stress about adhering to a dress code, but honestly, why bother? Whether you’re heading to a glamorous party or keeping things low-key with friends, this night is all about having fun with your outfit. For NYE, think sparkle, velvet, or silk—these fabrics scream celebration but can also be worn beyond the holiday. With so many versatile options available, it’s easier than ever to create a holiday look that lasts beyond the party.
As you say goodbye to 2024 and welcome in 2025, remember: this is your first outfit of the year, so no pressure! Use this opportunity to experiment with textures, mix patterns, or try a new silhouette. Tuck your blazer into a high-waisted skirt or wear a shirt backwards. Add a brooch to
a dress you’ve worn countless times. Small tweaks like these can instantly elevate your look and keep things feeling fresh.
4. Cosy Days at Home
And when it’s all said and done, the BEST part of the holidays is the chance to truly relax. Your phone stays quiet, there’s no pressure to be anywhere, and everyone finally agrees—it’s time for a break. It’s those slow, cosy days spent at home that really allow us to recharge.
For me, the best way to embrace these moments is with the simplest comforts. Think of a pair of Sleeper slippers that make you feel like you’re walking on clouds, paired with a cosy piece of Lucy Nagle cashmere that is soft against your skin. These are the kinds of pieces that elevate your downtime, so even if a surprise visitor arrives, you’re still ready to serve. Whether you’re curled up with a book or binge-watching your favourite series, there’s something about taking the time to really settle into those quiet moments that feels like the ultimate holiday gift. This is the true essence of comfort – no fuss, just pure relaxation, leftovers, and stylish pyjamas.
