1. Choose an environmentally conscious caterer
Opt for a caterer who sources ingredients locally. Not only does this support local businesses, it also reduces the carbon footprint associated with transporting food.
2. Plan your menu wisely
Craft a menu that reflects your guests’ preferences while avoiding overly extravagant options that might go uneaten. Consider seasonal ingredients that are more likely to be fresher and more abundant.
3. Offer smaller portions
Serve smaller portions to minimise leftovers. Guests can always avail of seconds if they’re still hungry, but this approach helps ensure less food is wasted.
4. Buffet style or family-style service
Buffet or family-style serving encourages guests to take only what they want, allowing for more control over portion sizes and reducing the likelihood of excess food.
5. Communicate dietary preferences
Request RSVPs that include dietary restrictions or preferences. This way, you can tailor the menu to accommodate all guests, reducing the chances of food going uneaten.
