This West of Ireland super-ingredient should be in your self care regime

Used for hundreds of years in seaweed bathing, the oils from VOYA’s hand-harvested seaweed have truly remarkable benefits for skin, hair and body

There are plenty of well-known ingredients that boost our beauty products, but did you know that off the coast of Wild Atlantic Way there is a super nutrient and mineral dense natural ingredient? Sligo business, VOYA, has long harnessed the power of seaweed.

In fact for 15 years now, VOYA has led the way for results driven, certified organic skincare worldwide. Run by the Walton family, the skincare and body care line evolved from the widely acclaimed family-run seaweed baths in Strandhill, Co Sligo which first opened in 1912.

As the reputation of the baths spread, the idea was born to help visitors to create a similar experience at home. VOYA products harness the unique restorative, healing and anti-aging properties of the hand-picked seaweed, blended with the purest active organic ingredients and essential oils into exceptional skincare and body care products rich in antioxidants.

Bringing the benefits of the sea to your bathroom

VOYA has drawn on its heritage and expertise in sustainably sourced seaweed and seaweed science to bring a new sea-inspired bathing product to its collection of skincare and lifestyle products. The new Indulgent Sea Marine Bath Salts (€39) combine chunky bath salts with nourishing seaweed and a blend of detoxifying minerals that will revive the senses and revitalise the body.

Sea-sourced skin soothing ingredients

The rich multi-mineral formula includes magnesium, zinc, calcium and potassium to help detoxify the body, blended with wild Fucus Serratus Seaweed, Achill Island Sea Salts, Epsom Salts, and Himalyan Pink Rock salts. Naturally fragranced with uplifting lime and mandarin essential oils.

A special kind of seaweed

VOYA uses sustainably, hand harvested Fucus Serratus seaweed in these new bath salts. Also known as Serrated Wrack, this amazing plant survives by filtering the ocean for nutrients and as a result, amasses a huge amount of minerals and vitamins. Used for hundreds of years in seaweed bathing, the oils from this seaweed have truly remarkable effects on skin, hair and body. The antioxidant compounds found naturally in this seaweed have long been known to have a pronounced pro-ageing, skin conditioning, repairing and hydrating effect.

The science bit: Independent scientific research* has shown that Fucus Serratus has been proven to increase the skin’s ability to fight against free radicals by 724%**. It additionally has been scientifically proven to improve Type 1 Collagen production in the skin by 143%**. Fucus Serratus helps to protect the skin barrier and has been proven to decrease trans-epidermal water loss in the skin by 14%** whilst increasing the moisturisation of the skin by 17%**.

How to best enjoy it

Sprinkle the salts in a warm bath, letting them dissolve as you breathe in the reviving aroma and soak for at least 10 minutes. Suited for overall wellbeing, the bath salts help with fatigue and tension. Skin will be left deeply nourished and re-mineralised.

The new Indulgent Sea Marine Bath Salts (€39) are available at VOYA Spa and Retail partners and online at voya.ie.

VOYA products can be found around the globe, in hotels and retail outlets as well as luxurious spas, and all products are packaged using recycled, recyclable, or biodegradable materials.

*Independent scientific research on the efficacy of seaweed completed in conjunction with the Shannon Biotechnology Research Centre at the Institute of Technology, Tralee.
