In the January February issue, we profile @femalep In the January February issue, we profile @femalephotographersnetwork, an organisation that empowers and supports women in photography to pursue their professional and personal projects.
Allyson Klein of @storiesandlightphotography hopes to make her long term project about dedicated benches on her local coastal path into an exhibition or book.
"It's not really about the benches themselves, but rather, how each bench holds a story or multiple stories and represents the lives of people who we hold dear. Once I began talking to people about the project, I became privy to so many heartwarming and heartbreaking accounts of how the benches were part of their lives. Some have bronze plaques while others are carved. Even those with no marks can have a special meaning. One woman told me she had her first kiss on a bench and then, ten years later, the same man proposed to her at the very same spot. Another dedicated a bench at her sister’s favourite location along the path after she died of cancer at 22. One story which really got to me was a young girl, my daughter’s age, who died of a rare disease. She loved the country park near my house so much and visited it frequently that her parents dedicated a bench with her name on it. It’s a simple carved one with the words “Ruby’s Bench” and a little star on the front. This project felt important. It is something which can really bring the community together."

Read more about this community of talented photographers in the new issue of @irishcountrymag and follow @femalephotographersnetwork for more inspiring work.

"My husband called me last week and was like, ‘did anyone get on to you after the show’, and I was thinking ‘oh no what clanger did I come out with today?’, because it’s live TV you could say anything. And he was like, ‘no you just look so pregnant today!’”

Inside the January/February issue, out today, TV star Sinead Kennedy shares what it was like concealing her pregnancy on the @rtetoday show, her reasons for keeping her news private until now, as well as her international maternity leave plans. She also gets candid about gender disparity in the media and discusses the emotional but rewarding journey behind her award-winning documentaries. Find it in your local shop or supermarket.
