Prepare to relive your youth as this summer’s cinema releases serve up some serious throwback vibes
28 Years Later – 20 June
Three decades after the rage virus spread escaped from a biological weapons laboratory, a group of survivors lives on a small island. However, when one of the group leaves the island on a mission to the mainland, he discovers horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors. The cast includes Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes and Aaron Tayler-Johnson but don’t worry, we have been reliably informed that Cillian Murphy will also make an appearance in the film also.
The Naked Gun – 8 August
Described as “a legacy sequel to Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult” which was released in 1994 starring the inimitable Leslie Nielson, the 2025 reboot of The Naked Gun stars our very own Liam Neeson. He plays Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., son of Lt. Frank Drebin, alongside Pamela Anderson. Naturally, he will have ‘a particular set of skills’ and we’re hoping for plenty of in-jokes and absurd Taken references.
Jurassic World Rebirth – 2 July
Jurassic World Rebirth picks up five years after the most recent film, Jurassic World Dominion, and its events. Featuring a new cast led by Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey, it follows a team of skilled operatives to the dangerous island research facility for the original Jurassic Park to obtain DNA that could provide life-saving benefits to mankind.
I Know What You Did Last Summer – 18 July
Fans of the original will be thrilled to know that Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr are back for more in this new addition to the wildly popular 90s horror franchise. The similar plot line sees five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident and cover up their involvement, making a pact to keep it a secret. One year later, they are stalked by a mysterious killer, and need to seek help from two survivors of the legendary Southport massacre of 1997.
Freakier Friday – 8 August
We couldn’t be happier to see Freaky Friday’s original mother-daughter duo Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee-Curtis reprise their roles in this sequel to the blockbuster movie. In this film, Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice. It’s a resounding thumbs up from us already.
