Lá Bealtaine, the Irish word for May Day, is named after the day when spring moves into summer and the earth tilts its face towards the sun.

From food and music to dancing, sports and the power of fragrance, we’ve got a few fun ways to show your appreciation for Lá Bealtaine, in Ireland this year.

Bealtaine Festival

Ireland’s national celebration of arts and creativity as we age, is returning for May 2024 with an all-new theme – ‘Lust for Life’. Festivalgoers can expect an exciting array of events including Prom Night,  in partnership with Street 66 and Outhouse, which is an opportunity for older LGBTQIA+ individuals and those who may have missed out on prom experiences in their youth, to enjoy a magical evening of music, performances, and nostalgia.

This is a pioneering arts festival that fosters creativity among older people across Ireland through intergenerational collaboration, showcasing older artists, and promoting skills and experiences that can lead to a rich, creative life. Visit bealtaine.ie for more information.

Blas na Bealtaine will celebrate people and food from across the globe but right here in the west. Through festivals, events, and collaborations, it will celebrate the diversity, creativity, and passion that define Galway’s food culture.

It’s only right that the start of the summer season should have it’s own dedicated scent, and now it has. Created by Irish perfume brand, Cloon Keen, it’s an ultra-feminine perfume dedicated to the vivacity and joy of youth. Lá Bealtaine opens with beams of bergamot, mandarin and neroli while sun-warmed patchouli and cedar provide the backdrop to a languorous amber haze.

Wear it throughout the year to bring the warmth and essence of summer with you, wherever you go.
