Activewear for outdoor workouts and road races

These activewear pieces are functional, comfortable, and ideal for race day

The evenings are nice and bright, which means we can get back to outdoor runs and garden workouts – if you’re tired of the view from the treadmill. Maybe you’re training for that summer race, or you’re heading to an oceanfront yoga class. When it comes to adapting your workout wardrobe to the outdoors, layering, practicality and comfort are key.

Women’s running shorts, Kalenji @ Decathlon (€8)

Dressing for a jog or run can sometimes be more stressful than the run itself. Shorts can ride up, legs can chafe, and what should be an empowering, endorphin boosting exercise can feel anything but. These shorts from Decathlon are affordable, comfortable and pretty much stay put no matter the exercise. They are ideal for warmer days when you don’t want to feel too warm in ankle-length leggings. But they’re not so short that you’ll feel too exposed to the elements! Available online and instore, in size XS – 2XL.

High impact sports bra, Marks & Spencer (€36)

Is there anything more elusive than the perfect sports bra? Marks & Spencer’s high impact bra is breathable, non-wired and secure. It’s got hook and eye fastening on the back, under a racerback, with a wide underband to keep it in place. You’ll feel supported and ready to move, whether that movement is dancing, jogging, or cycling. The bra is available from 32A – 42E.

Fast track running jacket, Sweaty Betty (€120)

While we do wish we could spend the spring/summer months jogging around in shorts and t-shirts, we aren’t guaranteed a dry time in Ireland. A running jacket can keep the chill of wind and light rain at bay. The Sweaty Betty running jacket has thumb holes, reflective trim, and a hood that easily tucks away. It’s available in 2XS – 2XL and will layer well over all kinds of bases.

Eco soft tank, Finalbend (€20)

Finalbend’s Eco Soft tank is a breathable base made from an innovative blend of brushed recycled polyester and spandex. It’s comfortable and soft on the skin, but also flexible to move with you. It’s ideal for anyone who doesn’t feel comfortable heading out in just a sports bra, but still wants to layer down for warmer days. If it’s an evening run, you can pop a thin jumper on top to make sure you’re ready for all weather.

Lilac high waisted leggings, Peachylean (€65)

Dublin-born Peachylean is an incredibly size-inclusive brand that focuses on quality activewear pieces in an array of gorgeous colours. These high waisted leggings are flattering and functional, with a side pocket that makes taking your phone and keys out on the go easy and secure. The leggings are sweat-wicking and squat-proof, making them the perfect base no matter the activity. Plus, they are available in sizes XS – 4XL.
