Oiling your scalp has been trending online for some years, Beauty Writer Adele Miner reviews Annutri ‘Grow It’ hair oil.
While we spend so much time taking care of the skin on our face and body, we often forget that the skin extends to our scalps too. Underneath all of that hair is skin that also needs to be nourished and cared for, but often, it’s impossible to know where to begin.
Scalp or hair oiling has become increasingly popular online, with many online content creators sharing their favourite oils and oiling routines. Navigating this can be tricky as different hair types can require different oils and misinformation on the most effective way to oil your hair is widespread.
What is the purpose of hair oiling?
Hair oiling comes from the ancient Ayurvedic practice of massaging natural plant oils into the scalp and hair. The main aim is to nourish the scalp, promoting healthy and strong hair growth while also protecting the strands from damage.
What is the correct way to hair oil?
Whatever oil you choose to use, applying it correctly is key. Often, the trick with hair oiling lies in the adage – ‘less is more’. Overloading your scalp and ends with oil will do it no more good than applying it lightly. Ideally, you should stick to oiling your scalp only as this is where the oil will be most effective. Nourishing your strands as they grow, apply the oil directly to the scalp and take time to massage it in gently to encourage absorption. From there, you can pop your hair up in a loose and protective hairstyle to avoid pulling and leave it to sit in your hair for a minimum of 30 minutes. Ideally, if you can leave it in for a couple of hours, however you should always avoid leaving oil in overnight or sleeping on it as it can upset the microflora of the scalp and cause irritation. After this, it can be washed out with your usual shampoo and conditioner and hot water.
Choosing an oil
Getting the right oil can be confusing, so finding one that ticks all the boxes is a godsend. Irish brand Annutri offer a range of haircare and beauty supplements offering support for those on a haircare journey. I have been oiling my scalp consistently for a year now and after trailing many different types of oils and brands, Annutri’s ‘Grow it‘ scalp oil is by far my favourite.
The product
Described as a ‘luxurious blend of 100% natural oils designed to nourish, strengthen, and promote hair growth’, the oil claims to deeply hydrate, reduce irritation and support healthy follicle function.

The ingredients are a blend of different oils, which takes the guesswork out of choosing the best oil for you. Inside it you’ll find the likes of Flaxseed Oil which stimulates new hair growth and prevents dandruff-related flaking, Amla oil which strengthens hair and boosts shine and rosemary antioxidant which stimulates hair growth and provides essential scalp protection
My thoughts
The oil itself smells beautiful and is light in consistency which means a small amount can go a long way. I usually use around two droppers worth across my scalp, massaging it in after applying it straight from the nozzle.
The bottle is priced at €35, which isn’t the cheapest oil on the market; however, one bottle should get you around 4 months’ worth of use. After using mine consistently for the past three months, I’ve noticed the overall health and shine on my hair has improved massively. I haven’t had much new growth – however, prior to using Grow it I had seen a spurt in hair growth from taking this collagen supplement. From that, my aim was to nourish these new baby hairs, which Grow it has done perfectly.
Pros: This oil is easy to use and takes the guesswork out of finding the best oil for your hair as it combines a combination of different oils. Trusting the ingredients, my hair has grown in strong, healthy and hydrated. Using it now slots perfectly into my routine and I couldn’t imagine not having it as part of my overall beauty regime.
Cons: I personally didn’t see any new hair growth since using it and so my hair’s fullness and volume has remained the same.
Price: €28
Overall verdict: If you’re curious to start hair oiling, this is the perfect product to cover all bases and see real results.
