Five tips from an expert on how to simplify your wellness routine

In many ways, wellness has become simply too complicated. From 10-step skincare routines to the perfect sleep schedule, here’s how to simplify it.

If like many, you’re tired of an overwhelming wellness routine and constantly worried about what you should be doing. Winning holistic therapist Barbara McAteer, founder of Irish brand Josie’s Botanicals, believes we’ve forgotten that wellbeing can be simple.

Drawing on more than 30 years’ experience, Barbara shares the five simple but effective daily rituals that can make the biggest difference to your wellbeing.

Create One Daily Ritual – Not Ten – Whether it’s applying a facial oil mindfully, making a cup of herbal tea or taking five quiet minutes before bed to relax.

Breathe Before You Reach for Your Phone – Begin your day with a few minutes of intentional breathing before looking at emails or social media. This can help to reduce stress hormones, calm the nervous system and help you feel more present before the day begins.

Use the Power of Touch – A gentle facial massage while cleansing or moisturising, or massaging your hands, neck and shoulders with a botanical oil, can help release tension.

Create an Evening Wind-Down Ritual – Rather than scrolling until bedtime, spend the last 20 minutes of your day creating a calming environment – try using calming essential oils such as lavender, light a candle, take a warm bath or shower or spray an aromatherapy room spray.

Let Nature Do Some of the Work – Whether it’s a walk in the fresh air or simply opening a window and taking a few deep breaths, Barbara believes reconnecting with nature is one of the simplest ways to manage wellness.
