Wing in or out? The correct way to wear hydrating eye patches

Wing in or out? The correct way to wear hydrating eye patches

When your under eyes look like they could do with a little boost and refresh, popping on some hydrating eye patches is the best way to revive them.

We’ve all been there, standing in front of the mirror, holding a hydrating eye patch to your under eye and contorting it different directions until it ‘looks’ right. ‘Should the wing sit on the inside, or outside?’ you ask yourself, before giving up and jumping on your sofa to get cosy.

If you’ve been in that predicament, we finally have the correct answer for you. Shannon McCreery, National Head of Education at Ultraceuticals shares the correct way to wear your hydrating eye patches.

She says; “When it comes to the Ultraceuticals Ultra B² Hydrating Eye Masks, we recommend positioning the narrowest point towards the inner corner of the eye, aligning it with the tear duct. So, pointy end in. The mask’s curved shape follows the natural contours of the under-eye area, so it sits comfortably against the skin,”

“While you might see people wearing their eye masks in all sorts of directions online, the most important thing is to follow the instructions for your particular product. Different masks can have different shapes and designs, so there isn’t necessarily one universal rule.”

So, for most eye patches in a classic curve shape, it’s wing in and thicker section out.

Along with correct positioning, Shannon says there’s also other ways we can get the most out of our eye patches. Sharing her top five tips, she says:

Expert Tips for Most of Your Eye Masks

1. Always start with clean, dry skin

Before applying your eye masks, make sure the under-eye area is thoroughly cleansed and free from make-up, oil and other impurities. This helps the treatment sit comfortably on the skin and lets the ingredients work effectively.

2. Get the positioning right

Using the provided spatula, gently lift each hydrogel patch and place it beneath the eye, with the narrowest point facing the inner corner. Gently smooth it into place, following the natural curve of the under-eye area.

3. Give your eye masks enough time to work

For best results, leave the Ultra B² Hydrating Eye Masks on for at least 15 minutes. Whether you’re getting ready for a special occasion or simply taking a few minutes for yourself, this is an easy way to give tired-looking eyes some extra attention.

4. Don’t waste the leftover serum

After you remove your masks, gently massage any remaining serum into the under-eye area and along the orbital bone. There’s no need to rinse it away. Follow with your usual eye cream to complete your routine.

5. Keep them cool for an extra refreshing boost

For extra cooling, store your eye masks in the fridge before use. Chilled hydrogel patches can feel especially refreshing first thing in the morning or when the eye area feels tired.
