Get away from it all in this two-bed sanctuary in the midst of 70 acres of majestic gardens
When choosing where to spend a weekend away with someone special, it’s always nice to have a mix of modern and old-world, luxury and rustic charm and to be surrounded by nature while knowing you’re only a stone’s throw from a bustling city.
Mount Congreve Gardens in Co Waterford recently underwent a €7 million-euro redevelopment (which you can read about in our upcoming summer issue) and visitors can now stay a little longer as the Georgian Gate Lodge has been beautifully redeveloped to offer a two-bedroom guesthouse. Set in the midst of the 70-acre gardens, the living space strikes the perfect chord between old and new comfort featuring an antique bio-ethanol stove, an 18th-century French day-bed accompanied by classic wing-back velvet armchairs, a Frame Smart TV and even a gin bar.
A stay at the Gate Lodge also offers ‘the keys to the gardens’ where you can explore, relax and enjoy the entirety of Mount Congreve Gardens all to yourself after hours. If you’re a dog-owner you’re also in luck because you can take your furry pal with you to enjoy the wetlands walk on the doorstep of the gardens.
For breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea, there is a plot-to-plate menu at the Stable Café at the manor house. For the evening, the gardens are located just 10 minutes outside of Waterford city and offer direct access to the 45km Waterford Greenway so visitors will not be short of places to dine or things to see and do.
The Mount Congreve Gate Lodge is available for adult-only bookings from mid-April onwards. The house and gardens are open year-round, seven days a week (four days a week in low season) and rates start at €195 per night with a minimum of a two-night stay.
