Six stylish jeans trends of 2024 and how to wear them

There’s a trend to suit everyone this year and one or two have made a welcome comeback from our teenage years

1: Wide leg jeans

This denim style is having a real moment as it elongates the leg and creates the illusion of a smaller waist. This shape is great for balancing out a statement blazer or puff-sleeved top but also looks lovely styled with a simple t-shirt and flats.

2. Cropped jeans

This is a trickier trend to pull off but when styled correctly, these jeans will become your new favourite staple. Perfect for summer afternoons, pair them with Birkenstocks or trainers for a casual combo. Alternatively, they can be styled with strappy sandals for a night out or worn in cooler months with long boots and an extra cuff for a high fashion ensemble.

Marks & Spencer: Slim Fit Cropped Jeans – €47.50

3. Flared jeans

We loved them in the 90s and early 00s and now flared jeans have made a comeback, albeit in a more tailored, chic way. Universally flattering, depending on the level of flare you get to suit your shape, they are simple to style with either a cool blouse or top for a day out or with a power blazer and heels for the office.

4. Ripped or distressed jeans

You might get funny looks from your parents but ripped jeans are hot this year so if you’ve always wanted to try them, this is the time to do it! Gone are the days where they were considered unkempt or grungy, now they’re a way to add an edge to a feminine look and a cool street fashion vibe to your everyday wardrobe.

5. Straight leg jeans

Perhaps the most versatile of all the trends, straight leg jeans are ideal for any occasion. Worn just as easily with a stiletto heel as a flip flop, how you style it is your call, knowing that the overall effect will be polished and chic. The pair below combine with another popular trend this year for dark-wash denims.

COS: Column Jeans – €89

6. Barrel-leg jeans

A style known by several names – bow-leg, barrel-leg, balloon-leg and even carrot-leg! – this shape is not going to be for everyone and works best with a fitted t-shirt or shirt on top. Pair with heels for a dressy look or loafers for a more casual occasion.

Seagreen: Citizens of Humanity Micro Relaxed Pacifica – €369
