inspiring podcasts

If you’re finding your New Year motivation start to flag, these podcasts will help keep your physical and mental health on the right track

Better Days

Almost everyone who listens to podcasts in Ireland will have heard of The Good Glow by Georgie Crawford. And after a number of hugely successful podcasts together, Georgie and Gerry Hussey, an author and leading high performance coach, have joined forces to bring us an inspiring and motivating podcast where they discuss real life challenges and give us real life solutions.

Happier with Gretchen Rubin

Award-winning author and podcaster Gretchen Rubin is on a mission to make us happier and she believes she knows how to do it. Sharing lots of personal experience, she brings her practical, manageable advice about happiness and good habits to this lively podcast. Gretchen’s co-host and guinea pig is her younger sister, Elizabeth Craft, a TV writer and producer living in Los Angeles, who (lovingly) refers to Gretchen as her happiness bully.

Feel Better, Live More

If you’re interested in learning more about every facet of your wellbeing, this podcast – which is the leading health podcast in the UK – could be the one for you. Medical doctor Dr Rangan Chatterjee talks to leading health experts and exciting personalities who offer easy health life-hacks, expert advice and debunk common health myths giving you the tools to revolutionise how you eat, sleep, move and relax.

Ready to be Real

Going beyond the usual ‘celebrity’ interview style, presenter Síle Seoige has created a remarkable space for well-known and not so well-known people to share their extraordinary stories and reveal a side of them that we have never seen before. Her refreshing approach has made for some truly special conversations that inspire, challenge, educate, comfort or simply entertain her listeners.

TED Talks Daily

We all know the power of TED Talks on Youtube and the reach and impact they can have when one goes viral – just ask Brené Brown. However, if you don’t feel like you have time to watch them, give the podcast a try. Every weekday, you can join host and journalist Elise Hu for thought-provoking ideas on every subject imaginable – from Artificial Intelligence to Zoology, and everything in between – given by the world’s leading thinkers and creators.

How I Built This

This is a must-listen for anyone who wants to start their own business as Guy Raz interviews the world’s best-known entrepreneurs to learn how they built their iconic brands. In each episode, founders reveal deep, intimate moments of doubt and failure, and share insights on their eventual success. How I Built This is a master-class on innovation, creativity, leadership and how to navigate challenges of all kinds.

Solo Powered

Hosted by life coach Ariana Dunne, this is a podcast that celebrates doing things on your own and not waiting for anyone in the pursuit of your passion. It’s about living life to the full on your own terms. Topics covered on the podcast already include solo travelling, a solo journey to parenthood, setting up your own business, making your own movies, one-person plays, Antarctic adventures, rowing solo across the Atlantic and much more.

Changes with Annie Macmanus

With guests ranging from Idiris Elba to Gabor Maté, Dublin DJ Annie Mac seems to have hit upon the sweet spot podcast fans are looking for with her combination of friendly chat and the topic of life changes. Each guest talks through the biggest changes they have overcome in childhood and adulthood, and how they effect change. The podcast explores how change punctuates our lives, how it can totally derail us and often comes to define who we are.

Happy Place

TV host and broadcaster Fearne Cotton jumped on the podcast bandwagon before it became overcrowded in 2018 with the concept of Happy Place – a show where she talks to guests about all things personal, spiritual and the big picture as she uncovers what happiness means to them. Such is the mammoth success of the podcast, it now has its own website, app, bookclub and even a festival (!) and Fearne fully intends to ‘keep the conversation going’.

Real Health with Karl Henry

If you want to know more about the best way to eat and exercise, it’s worth your while tuning in to this podcast. Every week, leading Irish personal trainer and wellness coach Karl Henry is joined by experts for valuable conversations on all things physical and mental health as well as lifestyle tips to make health easy and accessible.
