If you are an aspiring writer, we have good news for you: The Ireland AM Christmas Short Story Competition is back! Entering is the perfect way to spark some creativity, and our very own editor, Klara Heron, is one of the judges this year, as well as Irish literary legends Sheila O’Flanagan and Paul Howard.

Entrants are required to write a tale under the theme ‘A Christmas Surprise’, and stories must be no more than 500 words. The judges are looking for stories that are thought-provoking, well-written, and imaginative.

If you’re not enticed yet, here are the prizes: The winning story will be printed in the January/February issue of Irish Country Magazine (on shelf 31 December), and will be read out live on air on Ireland AM the week of the 16th of December. Even better, the winner will receive a €500 voucher for Dubray Books to spend on this year’s must have reads.

We encourage all to enter – so let your ideas run wild and grab a pen and paper. Best of luck!
