27 June: The Queer Irish Diaspora at EPIC
Have you ever wondered about the experiences of LGBTQ+ folks who emigrated from Ireland throughout history? What did they leave behind? What were they searching for in their new home? Visit EPIC museum for a fascinating public presentation by Colm Molloy, Dublin Pride’s resident historian, archivist, and designer. The event delves into the stories of Ireland’s queer diaspora, exploring the lives and experiences of those who left their homeland in search of acceptance, social equity, and community. You’ll journey through the ages, from the captivating tale of the Ladies of Llangollen to the experiences of 20th-century LGBTQ+ emigrants. There are also tours available which you can learn more about here.
22 and 29 June: The Pride of Trinity Trails Tour
Located in the heart of the capital, Trinity College Dublin’s leafy campus spans 47 acres and is filled with stunning cobblestone pathways, beautiful grounds and gardens, and iconic buildings.
This Pride month, Trinity Trails has launched a new Pride of Trinity Trails tour, led by one of our expert student tour guides. Departing from the Bell Tower in Front Square, enjoy a 45-minute loop of campus whilst learning about the university’s involvement in LGBTQ+ history. You’ll visit the stomping grounds of Oscar Wilde, and trace back in time to the societies that debated legalising homosexuality, long before it was part of Irish public discourse.
Journey through the decades to the early 1970s when Trinity students and lecturers, including former Senator David Norris, founded the Sexual Liberation Movement, the first of its kind in Ireland. Hear about its founding members who drove the groundbreaking ‘Campaign for Homosexual Reform’, which eventually led to the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Ireland.
The Pride of Trinity Trails tour is 45 minutes, and takes place on 22 and 29 June 2024. Tickets are €13.50 and can be booked here.
