Inside the September|October issue of Irish Country Magazine you'll find our beauty shoot with Clarins. As the Autumn season approaches, Clarins is all about nurturing your skin’s natural radiance, pairing powerful skincare with luminous makeup. At the heart of the beauty routine is the iconic Double Serum franchise, designed to help skin look smoother, brighter and beautifully revitalised. Clarins National Trainer, Louise Sheehan takes us through the hero skincare and makeup products she used to create model Jeannie's striking look, sharing her tips and tricks for creating statement eyes and lips at home. If you want something more dramatic, how do you create a statement eye makeup look? "I went a little bit more extreme on the eyes here. I wanted to keep it nice and light, but still give a proper makeup look. Jeannie has amazing eyes, so it was all about playing them up with shades of brown, taupe and chestnut. I went in with the Waterproof Eye Pencil in shade Chestnut (€28) first, blended and buffed that out across the lid and then went in and packed on the powder from the Ombre 4 Couleurs eyeshadow quad in Amber Gradation (€48). Wonder Perfect 5D Mascara If I did it the opposite way, it just doesn’t work – even though there’s something to grip onto with the powder on top of the eye, it just blends out muddy, so you have to go in with your cream base first. For underneath the eye, I used the Waterproof Eye Pencil in Smoked Wood and finally, the Wonder Perfect 5D Mascara (€35)." What about contouring? Any tips for setting things in place with powder? "For this look, I used the Ever Bronze Compact Duo in shade 02 (€42). I used the deeper shade on the contours of the face and down the neck and then fixed it with the pressed powder. I tried to minimise the amount of powder products I used here. For me, the key is using an eyeshadow blending brush instead of a powder brush for application. Why? The eyeshadow brush can give you precise results without giving an overly powdered look to the face." For the final look of the day, you kept everything in place but switched up the lip look. What advice do you have for nailing a statement lip? "It starts with skincare; check to see if you need to buff away or exfoliate the lips first as nothing ruins the finish look faster than dry flaky lips. While I am applying skincare to the face, I will always apply our nourishing Hydra-Essentiel Moisture Replenishing Lip Balm (€28) for ten minutes before I blot it all away. Joli Lipstick in shade 'Dahlia Red' A top tip for lipstick application is to create the outer line before filling in the rest of the lip; if it isn’t hitting straight away with colour, blot and reapply to build it up. To “clean up the edges” of the lip use your concealer and a flat brush to do so and always check to see if you have lipstick on your teeth!"
