It’s easier than you think to save money on expensive lotions and potions by getting creative with your leftovers

Nobody likes throwing out old, stale or discoloured food but the fact of the matter is, we do it more often than we care to admit. However, just because something might not taste as good anymore doesn’t mean it can’t be used for something else.

Many of us are clueless about the wondrous effects the nutrients and minerals in our food can have on our skin, hair and bodies. If we knew more, chances are we wouldn’t let half as much of it go in the bin.

In honour of Clean Beauty Day which occurred this week (15 July), Too Good To Go is highlighting the important connection between clean beauty practices and environmental sustainability by sharing its top tips for transforming potential food waste into effective beauty and spa treatments.

Machaela O’Leary from Too Good To Go said: “Clean beauty and fighting food waste go hand in hand. The Clean Beauty Day movement prioritises using resources wisely and minimising our environmental impact. By helping to reduce food waste and prioritising sustainability in your beauty routine, consumers can make a real difference this summer.”

Get visible results with less waste

Too Good To Go is offering some additional tips for incorporating clean beauty and sustainability into your summer routine. Embrace sustainability and glowing skin with these simple, homemade beauty recipes using ingredients you might already have on hand.

  • Brown avocado rescue mask: Browning avocado may look dodgy but that doesn’t mean you should throw it away. Mash it with honey for a luxurious face mask, rich in vitamins such as B2 and B3 and antioxidants.
  • Leftover porridge power: Don’t let leftover porridge go to waste – oats have anti-inflammatory properties which can help calm redness and irritated skin anywhere on your body.
  • Rice water rinse for shine: Save the water you use to rinse your rice as it’s a fantastic hair rinse for extra shine. Just remember to follow up with conditioner as rice water can be drying. Bonus: Dip your face in rice water for improved skin healing.
  • Green tea facial mist: Repurpose leftover green tea into a refreshing facial mist. Pop it into a spray bottle and gently spritz your face throughout the day. The antioxidants and caffeine will help soothe and de-puff your skin.

Give these recipes a try and see how easy it is to incorporate sustainability into your beauty routine!
