Among the highlights were the presentations by Simone Rocha at Jean Paul Gaultier, Róisín Pierce, Jonathan Anderson at Loewe, and Seán McGirr at Alexander McQueen, each bringing a unique perspective and creative flair to the fashion capital.
Simone Rocha
Dublin-born fashion designer Simone Rocha stole the spotlight as a guest couturier for Jean Paul Gaultier, marking a significant milestone in her career. Rocha’s interpretation of the Gaultier brand showcased her signature hyper-feminine and whimsical style, earning praise from fashion critics for her reimagining of iconic Gaultier elements such as conical bras and corsets. The collection, which featured hand-crochet and manipulated Irish lace, exemplified Rocha’s meticulous craftsmanship and ability to blend traditional techniques with modern design sensibilities.
Róisín Pierce
Award-winning designer Róisín Pierce captivated audiences with her autumn/winter 2024 collection showcased at the Irish embassy. Known for her intricate craftsmanship, Pierce’s ethereal designs exuded hope and resilience, offering a soothing contrast to the tumultuous times we live in. Her collaboration with Dover Street Market Paris promises further growth and recognition for her label.
Jonathan Anderson
Northern Irish designer Jonathan Anderson, renowned for his avant-garde approach, presented a mesmerising collection for Loewe. Seán McGirr
Making history, Seán McGirr took the reins at Alexander McQueen, following in the footsteps of the legendary Sarah Burton. McGirr’s debut collection showcased a bold, experimental vision, characterised by youthful exuberance and daring innovation. Drawing inspiration from his upbringing and passion for design, McGirr infused the McQueen legacy with a fresh perspective, setting the stage for an exciting new chapter in the brand’s history.
Rachel Maguire
Another Irish designer making waves at Paris Fashion Week is Rachel Maguire, known as @rashhiiid on Instagram. Her collection, showcased during the event, reflects her commitment to creating bold, expressive, and original pieces that not only look stunning but also have a positive impact on the wearer and the environment.
Maguire’s designs are inspired by her love of self-expression and pushing boundaries in fashion, aiming to convey a message without uttering a word. She believes that fashion is not just about clothing but also about confidence, self-love and individualism. With a focus on sustainability, Maguire graduated from the Grafton Academy of Fashion Design, becoming the first student in 80 years to complete both of her collections using entirely recycled materials. Her latest collection, inspired by Queen Méabh, the Irish warrior, continues to exemplify her ethos of combining creativity with sustainability, currently being showcased through Plan8paris in Paris Rue Saint Claude.
