The service offers up to six free sessions without waiting lists or referrals

We all experience stress from time to time. However, some people suffer more deeply with anxiety, depression or other mental health difficulties and often feel like they have nowhere to turn.

Thankfully, Turn2Me, a national mental health charity, has stepped up and is encouraging the Irish public to use its free services, emphasising that they have no waiting lists and require no GP referral.

The charity was founded in 2009 stemming from the very personal experiences of brothers Oisín and Diarmuid Scollard, who lost their brother to suicide in 2003.

It offers up to six free counselling sessions to adults in Ireland; and free support groups on anxiety, depression, grief, and relationship issues which run most weekdays at 6pm. In addition, unlimited paid counselling sessions are available.

Fiona O’Malley, CEO of Turn2Me said: “We hear of waiting lists of up to 18 months for some mental health services. 18 days is a long time to wait for mental health services, never mind 18 months. Turn2Me releases its available counselling slots at the start of every week on our website, Turn2Me.ie. Our free support groups run most evenings through our website at 6pm. Our services are available all year round.”

Turn2Me is funded by the National Office for Suicide Prevention (NOSP) and has helped over 120,000 people since it was set up in 2009.
